Job summary

ARMStaffing is seeking a Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer for a 13-week contract assignment. Shift is weekdays 4–9 hours with no weekends. The role performs high-risk OB ultrasounds and assists in invasive procedures, educating patients and collaborating with physicians to ensure quality care.

Requirements include a CAAPHEP-accredited DMS program, ARDMS OB/GYN RDMS, and FE registry; 2 years of MFM or high-risk obstetrics experience preferred. Benefits and travel support are provided.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program (CAAHEP).
• ARDMS RDMS in OB/GYN certification required.
• ARDMS FE registry required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-risk obstetric ultrasound studies per protocol.
• Assist MFM physicians with amniocentesis and CVS.
• Import images into Viewpoint and PACS with accurate records.
• Evaluate fetal anatomy and growth; obtain additional images as needed.
• Provide patient education and support before, during and after procedures.
• Maintain exam rooms and ensure supplies are stocked.
• Perform high-level disinfection of ultrasound transducers.
• Collaborate with MFM team to ensure coordinated care.
• Participate in quality improvement and process enhancements.
• Mentor new sonographers and students in the MFM setting.

Job Description

The Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer provides specialized high-risk obstetric ultrasound services to assist in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of maternal and fetal conditions. This role performs a wide range of advanced OB ultrasound examinations and assists MFM physicians with invasive procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling (CVS). The MFM Sonographer is responsible for selecting appropriate equipment and transducers, educating and positioning patients, obtaining relevant health histories, and communicating effectively with patients and support persons.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of high-risk obstetric ultrasound studies according to established protocols.
• Assist MFM physicians with invasive obstetric procedures such as amniocentesis and CVS.
• Import images and clinical data into Viewpoint and PACS systems, ensuring accurate patient record documentation.
• Evaluate fetal anatomy, growth, and well-being; identify abnormal findings and obtain additional images as directed.
• Provide patient education and support before, during, and after procedures.
• Maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness, stocking of supplies, and readiness for procedures.
• Perform high-level disinfection (HLD) of ultrasound transducers per infection control standards.
• Collaborate with MFM physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental process improvements.
• Mentor and support new sonographers and students in the MFM setting.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health/Education Programs (CAAHEP).
• American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (OB/GYN).
• American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Fetal Echocardiography (FE) registry.
• Two (2) years of related work experience in Maternal Fetal Medicine or a high-risk obstetrics setting preferred.
