Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Radiology Technologist for night and weekend shifts at Javon Bea Hospital - Riverside in Rockford, IL. The role covers MRI, CT and general radiography duties, ensuring patient safety and high-quality imaging.

Graduate of an accredited radiography program; ARRT Radiography and CT certification required; 2–4 years hospital experience preferred. This position involves patient preparation, contrast administration, and collaboration with radiologists and staff.

  • ARRT registered in Radiography and CT required.
  • 2–4 years of radiography technologist experience; hospital experience preferred.
  • Illinois IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation if working in Illinois; WI license if Wisconsin

Responsibilities

  • Operate MRI scanner, CT and radiography equipment to perform procedures.
  • Position patient to optimize visualization while ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Prepare patient for procedures and provide instructions to obtain desired results.
  • Administer contrast media as appropriate and manage IV access.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and assist radiologists during exams.
  • Assist with inventory management and supply decisions.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to students and partners.

Overview

Schedule: Nights, Weekends

Shift: Friday-Sunday, 9p-9a, holiday and call rotation

Location: Javon Bea Hospital- Riverside

Pay Range: $35.85-53.77

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains active status in the modalities in which they practice.
  • Assists the department coordinator by providing clinical leadership, completes projects, advanced level clinical duties and regular assignments as requested.
  • Is competent in all exams performed within the assigned modalities.
  • Corroborates patient clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by the radiologist.
  • Prepares the patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices, and accessories to successfully perform procedures.
  • Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomical area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort; immobilizes patient as necessary.
  • Practices aseptic technique as necessary,
  • Prepares and administers contrast media as appropriate to procedures performed; starts and maintains intravenous access.
  • Initiates basic life support action when necessary.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Provides input for supply and equipment decisions, maintains control of inventory and supplies for assigned area.
  • Provides practical instruction for students and partners.
  • Observes universal protocol, standard precautions and appropriate patient identifiers.
  • Apply principles of patient safety during all aspects of procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
  • Maintains knowledge of current MRI safety practices and utilizes such as part of daily practice. Assumes responsibility for persons entering Zones I-IV.
  • Applies principles and policies of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self and others. Reviews patients’ clinical history ensuring that appropriate scan is ordered and labs are within range- reviewing with radiologist and/or provider as necessary.
  • Selects and operates the magnetic resonance system, surface coils, physiologic gating devices, and associated equipment to achieve desired results. • Reports and documents MRI safety incidents/ adverse events per protocol.
  • Operates MRI scanner, associated equipment, and power injector to produce cross section images of patient anatomy for diagnostic purposes
  • Documents all information pertinent to MRI procedure in electronic medical record to include medication reconciliation. • Verifies consent/screening form for all entering Zone IV. • Ability to perform independent high-level MRI studies such as but not limited to; all cardiac studies, run offs, conditional device protocols, and MRI procedural studies

Education & Experience

Graduate of an accredited radiography program

Two to four years of experience as a technologist as a Radiographer is required. Experience in a hospital environment preferred

Certification/License

ARRT registered in Radiography and CT required with the ARRT (MR) or ARMRIT credential required

Two to Four Years experience in CT and one year in MRI

Hospital experience preferred

IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois

WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin

BLS/CPR required within 90 days of hire

Additional Requirements

Passing the Driver’s License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).

Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.

Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.

Other Skills and Abilities

Experience in working with radiologic technologists, radiologists and support staff in a multimodality department

Proficiency in mentoring employees and providing corrective action appropriately

Experience in obtaining departmental accreditation

Ability to communicate in a friendly and effective manner

Demonstrated ability to foster excellent teamwork in a radiology department

Strong organizational skills with ability to work independently

Read/comprehend written and verbal instructions

Basic PC skills

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and risk of radiation.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
