Description:Under the direction of a Radiologist, this role specializes in the performance of invasive procedures to aid in the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician. Explains examination procedures to patients and helps prepare patients for examinations. Obtains additional information about patients' medical histories as necessary. Prepares prescribed contrast media, medications, and IV solutions for administration to patients. Reviews clinical data on requisitions, analyzes anatomical structures of patients, sets up equipment, and assists the Radiologist in performing complex diagnostic invasive procedures. Prepares and sets up sterile equipment, physiological monitors, pressure injectors, and imaging equipment required for procedures. Ensures adequate supplies such as needles, catheters, etc., are available and properly stored. Replenishes supplies as appropriate. Actively assesses patient conditions before, during, and after all procedures. Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information for the body area being studied. May assist in the training of new personnel and/or students assigned to the division. Performs all imaging procedures while demonstrating principles of radiation protection. Involves shielding of patients, selecting appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose, and using other ALARA techniques. Resolves any image exceptions and ensures high-quality image delivery into PACS. Completes all study indexing, including study begin, study end, and completion of studies in the Radiology Information System. Reviews and confirms clinical protocols with Radiologists before performing studies. Demonstrates consistent adherence to Team Member Standards of Excellence, including open communication, timely responses, positive attitude, fostering innovation, and respecting diversity. Performs Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate. Documents findings in the medical record and within the Radiology Information System to support all clinical functions. Utilizes independent judgment to determine appropriate imaging techniques, patient positioning, and safety practices.
