Job summary

Hartford HealthCare is seeking a Biomedical Imaging Engineer to support and manage diagnostic imaging equipment across CT, ultrasound, MRI and other modalities. You will train staff, ensure safe operation, and maintain equipment databases across facilities.

The role emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance and collaboration with radiology teams to deliver high-quality patient care. On-site position with regular hours and on-call coverage as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years medical imaging service experience across multiple modalities.

Responsibilities

• Support medical imaging needs by overseeing equipment service and maintenance of diagnostic imaging systems.

• Serve as primary and 1st Pass service to imaging modalities (CT, ultrasound, radiology, DR, mammography).
• Develop and maintain procedures for capturing equipment and productivity data; back up information systems.
• Investigate device-related incidents and implement preventative measures.
• Coordinate recalls and alerts related to medical devices.

Department Description

Biomedical Engineering is a Hartford HealthCare (HHC) department responsible for the risk, safety, and management of medical equipment to reduce the potential for adverse impact on the safety and health of patients, staff, and customers coming to the organization’s facilities.
Biomedical Engineering addresses issues related to proper selection of the appropriate medical equipment to support an environment for the efficient and effective provision of safe patient care and treatment, effective preparation and education of staff responsible for the equipment use, and the maintenance and repair of the equipment. The department is also accountable for maintaining an accurate medical equipment database and inventory.

Position Responsibilities

• Support the medical imaging needs of the HHC System by performing and overseeing the equipment service and maintenance of diagnostic imaging systems, through equipment evaluation, technology assessment, site planning and project management.
• Responsible for the education and training for both technical and professional staff (on equipment use and features). Reports to the Radiology Engineering Manager, Biomedical Engineering.
• Provides primary and "1st Pass" service to medical imaging technology (i.e., ultrasound, CT, radiology, nuclear medicine, digital radiography (DR), mammography, etc.) and other modalities as needed.
• Develops and maintains appropriate procedures for capturing relevant equipment and productivity data through departmental and hospital systems; maintain backup procedures for information management systems.
• Investigate medical device-related incidents to determine causes and propose/implement preventative measures
• Develop policies to meet all medical equipment regulations (i.e., Safe Medical Device Act, etc.)
• Coordinate medical device-related recalls and alerts.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years medical imaging service experience in multiple modalities (i.e., Computerized Tomography, Interventional Radiology, Ultrasound, Digital Radiography, Nuclear Medicine, etc.).
• Work effectively as a team member within the area and with customers to provide quality services to hospital units through communication, cooperation and collaboration.
• The Radiology Engineer will promote radiation safety and identify and resolve exposure quality issues in Radiology.
• Associates degree required with certification in discipline, BS degree preferred. May be substituted with Military Training in Biomedical or Diagnostic Imaging.
• Demonstrate excellent managerial, communication, organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills; able to work independently but also as part of a team.
