Job 180307 - Radiology Coordinator- (Part-Time)
Coquille, OR

• The Radiology Coordinator performs a wide variety of routine duties including clerical, technical and patient related functions. The Radiology Coordinator is responsible for assisting members of the patient care team and providing a broad range of health care services such as: patient check-in, exam review, preparation for the visit, patient education, assistance with exams and procedures, and patient transporting. The Radiology Coordinator is trained to use a wide variety of radiographic equipment, computers, and software.
• The Radiology Coordinator may be assigned to work in a variety of imaging sections, assist multiple radiology modalities and/or clinical services per operational needs. The incumbent must be able to resolve conflict and endure the pressures associated with a constantly changing work environment.
• The incumbent assists with examinations involving adult, geriatric, adolescent, and pediatric patients in the various Radiology Imaging sections.

Patient Preparation and Care

• Greets and checks in patients, confirms two patient identifiers, reviews examination preparation, and explains studies to the patient in a clear manner according to department protocol or technologist guidance.
• Provides patients and families with appropriate information and resources while maintaining a caring, professional manner; offers warm blankets and other appropriate comfort measures.
• Prepares patients for imaging by assisting with gowns, ensuring jewelry or metal objects are removed when required, and securing personal belongings.
• Positions patients according to technologist direction, maintains positioning during procedures, and promotes patient comfort.
• Observes patients for signs of distress, including dizziness, anxiety, or pain; promptly reports concerns to appropriate clinical staff and stays with patients who need reassurance or monitoring before or after imaging.
• Assists adult, geriatric, adolescent, pediatric, injured, and mobility-limited patients with assigned support activities for which the coordinator has received appropriate training and department authorization.

Imaging and Technologist Support

• Assists technologists with diagnostic imaging examinations and procedures and remains competent in assigned examination-support functions.
• Works in a variety of imaging sections and supports CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, DXA, and other assigned imaging or clinical-service workflows according to operational needs.
• Sets up imaging rooms and equipment for scheduled examinations, including appropriate isolation precautions and the availability of radiation shielding.
• Prepares the next patient and examination area in advance to support continuous workflow between examinations.
• Assists with portable imaging runs, including helping position bed-bound patients and bringing equipment to bedside locations.
• Serves as a chaperone for ultrasound examinations when requested.

Orders, Scheduling, and Workflow Coordination

• Independently contacts referring providers to clarify incomplete or unclear imaging orders and requests corrected orders according to department protocol or technologist guidance.
• Refers all new, revised, or corrected medical orders to appropriately licensed personnel for receipt and processing; the coordinator does not receive or modify medical orders.
• Obtains sufficient information to determine whether a procedure should be performed immediately or within a specified time frame, following established protocols.
• Schedules STAT examinations as needed and helps prioritize STAT and routine cases according to urgency, established protocols, and technologist direction.
• Schedules imaging appointments that require coordination with other specialty areas, handles radiology appointment rescheduling according to department procedures, and coordinates imaging with services such as surgery and wound care.
• Communicates with the radiologist workflow team to correct workflow errors.
• Registers new providers with the radiologist group when requested, including Corepoint requests.
• Routes faxes to the appropriate imaging modalities for protocoling as part of standard clerical workflow.
• Communicates with the emergency department, nurses, providers, scheduling staff, and other departments regarding patient readiness and examination timing.
• Organizes work assignments according to department protocols and direction from the manager or supervising technologist.
• Assists the manager in maintaining the staff schedule.
• Reviews the next day's schedule and prepares appropriate non-clinical materials and workflow information in advance.

Patient Transport and Department Logistics

• Safely transports patients to and from imaging areas by wheelchair, gurney, bed, cart, or stretcher.
• Uses appropriate lifting and transfer devices and follows established safety protocols when moving or positioning patients.
• Locates and coordinates patients across the emergency department, inpatient units, surgery, clinics, waiting areas, and other departments as needed.
• Keeps hallways, transport routes, imaging rooms, and work areas clear and organized.

Clerical and Information-System Support

• Performs standard clerical work in radiology, including recordkeeping, answering and routing telephone calls, managing voicemail, entering patient data, and handling routine paperwork.
• Scans documents and uploads them to the appropriate patient records.
• Uploads and processes imaging discs according to department procedures.
• Pending Compliance Approval: Enters completed examination and billing information into designated systems according to department procedures, based on documentation or confirmation from the performing technologist.
• Uses radiographic equipment, computers, software, and assigned department systems appropriately.
• Uses the reporting system when assigned to mammography workflows.

Equipment, Rooms, and Supplies

• Cleans and sanitizes imaging equipment and examination rooms according to infection-control procedures.
• Stocks, rotates, and dates supplies, linen, gloves, gowns, contrast materials, and other department items.
• Maintains organized inventory and orders or requests supplies according to department procedures.
• Notifies appropriate staff when equipment malfunctions or other equipment issues are identified.
