GENERAL SUMMARY
The Radiological Technologist – Urgent Care reports to department leadership and, under the direction of a provider, nurse, or MLT, supports and assists with clinical and laboratory services to enhance patient flow and satisfaction. Accurately obtains, documents, and reports variances in history, vital signs, EKGs, and growth parameters for developmental stages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs radiologic procedures and examinations under the supervision of radiologists or delegated practitioners to produce diagnostic radiographic studies.
- Receives and interprets requests for radiologic procedures; gains patient cooperation; operates radiographic equipment; records diagnostic imaging results.
- Takes appropriate actions to protect patients, staff, and others from secondary radiation.
- Maintains knowledge of radiation protection standards, skeletal system anatomy, major organs, and the physical principles of energy, X-rays, and electric circuits to perform diagnostic procedures and assist in radiologic examinations.
- Provides imaging services using modalities including but not limited to conventional X-ray (CR, DR).
- Evaluates radiographs for technical quality.
- Exercises professional judgment during procedures.
- Provides patient care essential to radiographic procedures.
- Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and reports to the provider or radiologist.
- Assists with clinical processes supporting nursing and medical care to ensure safe, accurate, and timely patient care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Current licensure as a Radiologic Technologist by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 2-3 years of pediatric or general X-ray experience preferred.
- Knowledge of diagnostic radiology principles, procedures, and operation/maintenance of radiologic equipment.
- Effective interpersonal skills for communication with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
- Analytical skills to determine the best method for radiographs, ensuring clear images with minimal radiation exposure.
- Ability to work as part of a clinical team to support clinical and laboratory services, maintaining patient flow and satisfaction.
- CPR certification required, to be obtained and maintained within 45 days of hire.
- Must provide proof of completed diploma or academic transcript for those performing laboratory or point-of-care testing.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work environment involves radiology/imaging areas with rare exposure to unpleasant odors and occasional exposure to infectious agents. Regular exposure to radiation is minimized through safety procedures and protective gear, including badges to monitor exposure. Ability to stand long periods in lead aprons and lift or turn disabled patients is required.
