Job summary

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a Radiological Protection Specialist to support training and onboarding at the Aiken, SC site on SRS. The role mentors personnel during instruction, coaches during mockups and field activities, and ensures safe, compliant radiological practices across the program.

The position emphasizes developing the radiological protection program, observing staff performance, and coordinating OJT and classroom instruction in collaboration with SRNS

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Radiological Protection, Health Physics, Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or related science and related experience; or
• High School Diploma/GED or Associate degree and related experience
• Flexible schedule to provide off-shift observations, coaching, and support
• Familiarity with SRS Radiological Protection practices and policies

Responsibilities

• Upgrade training quality for Radiological Protection Inspectors and First Line Managers; approve qualifications and materials
• Grow personnel best practices to minimize exposure in high-uptime areas
• Observe and assess radiological protection staff in field, training, and drill situations
• Mentor and train new radiological protection inspectors; coordinate proficiency field training
• Provide additional training and test knowledge retention among SRMC personnel
• Manage personnel engagement; provide counseling and one-on-one mentorship
• Ensure compliance with the Site’s Radiological Controls (5Q) and related procedures
• Teach use of portable survey instruments for contamination surveys and exposure monitoring
• Conduct walkthroughs and review radiological data; communicate deficiencies to management
• Share experiences to connect training with field activities
• Provide administrative support for interviews, scheduling, and time coding
• Lead by example; define best practices and coach processes
• Collaborate with Field Safety & Health and SRNS Radiological Protection Training
• Provide instrumentation support for education, remediation, and training aids
• Create and validate training packages; align HR orientation with regulatory training and medical evaluations
• Other duties as assigned
