Job description

NYC Health + Hospitals - Henry J Carter is a state-of-the-art facility with a 5-Star CMS Quality Rating, equipped with 164-bed Skilled Nursing Facility and 201-bed Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) based in Harlem. Carter excels at providing quality medical, sub-acute, rehabilitative and long-term specialty services for individuals in need of medically-complex care like ventilator weaning. Position Overview:
This class of positions encompasses responsible clinical and administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility involving day-to-day tasks of an operating segment of the Radiology department in the delivery of radiological services. Operates x-ray equipment, develops images, and prepares radiological areas, equipment, supplies, and contrast materials. There are four (4) Assignment Levels within this class of positions; all personnel perform related work.

Responsibilities:
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Review exam orders, consult with radiologist, schedule patients and arrange for transportation as indicated.
  2. Identify patient and document all information pertinent to final report in the EMR, RIS and PACS.
  3. Prepare all patients for radiological procedures requested by the clinician. Arrange for proper protection of patients, public and staff from infectious diseases/materials.
  4. Oversee the work of ancillary staff.
  5. Perform difficult and highly specialized examinations in CT (Computed Tomography).
  6. Perform daily checks of CT imaging equipment, immobilization devices and other necessary accessories. Reviews daily maintenance, quality assurance and maintains documents and logs as required and mandated by the department and various regulatory agencies.
  7. Act as a Quality Assurance Technologist, perform imaging QA for radiography and CT as directed.
  8. Conduct inspections and checks equipment for defects and assures proper use of such equipment through instruction and review.
  9. On-Call responsibilities on rotational basis.
  10. Report any unexpected patient incidents in accordance with the occurrence report protocol.
  11. Maintain and exercise all mandated radiation safety regulations. Maintain basic care of all the CT imaging equipment. All malfunctions are to be reported to management staff whether mechanical, electrical or suspect and service request documentation completed. Maintain a clean and safe work environment for both patients and staff.
  12. Perform other duties as deemed necessary in the event of emergencies or disaster.
  13. Continue professional growth and development of job-related skills on an ongoing basis. Participate in continuing education activities.
  14. Assist radiologist during radiographic procedures as required.
  15. Perform tasks of radiographer level 2.
  16. Perform all diagnostic radiology exams including CT.
  17. Perform appropriate documentation in EPIC, PACS and Point Click Care.
  18. Ensure all examinations are accessioned, documented in RIS and all images sent to PACS.
  19. Tour reassigned as necessary to provide proper coverage for anticipated workload.
  20. Maintain a professional demeanor and relate to patients, physicians, staff and public in an appropriate manner.
  21. In accordance with HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), staff members will exercise due diligence in ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality.

Requirements:
Assignment Level III:
For Specialized Imaging Assignments: a valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH; and possession of a current advanced-level certification for the performance of these procedures.
