Natividad is seeking to fill one (1) full-time permanent and per-diem MRI Technologist position in the Diagnostic Imaging Department. This incumbent performs routine and highly specialized diagnostic and computerized tomography procedures on patients as ordered by physicians for diagnostic and treatment purposes and performs other related duties as assigned.
MRI Technologist candidates hired into full-time, permanent positions may be eligible to receive up to a $15,000.00 sign-on bonus and may be eligible for an additional special pay of 8% of your hourly rate with the Magnetic Resonance Imaging certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
THE SIGNIFICANT DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
- Prepares and positions patients for a variety of diagnostic and/or therapeutic x-ray procedures; determines the correct exposure factors on the basis of height, weight, portion of the body involved, and degree of penetration required; selects appropriate hoods, cones and screens to reduce secondary radiation and fogging; sets machine controls and exposes the required number and types of films; develops and processes exposed x-ray film using automated systems; manually develops films if required.
- Utilizes a variety of computerized and manual systems to set up/perform examinations and maintain information; records patient information, patient identification numbers, and the number/type of views taken; maintains logs and work-related statistics; assists with maintaining files of x-ray films and other hard copy items.
- May operate CT and/or MRI scanning equipment; may perform routine mammograms; may provide routine assistance during fluoroscopy examinations.
- May provide routine assistance with diagnostic imaging examinations involving angiography, arthrography, myelography, bone density and other special procedures; assists with and performs radiation therapy as directed.
- Performs all assignments in a manner consistent with defined protocols and standards; adheres to departmental policies and procedures pertaining to personnel, supplies, equipment and patient care.
- Participates in the implementation of effective quality control and quality assurance processes.
- Helps clean and maintain diagnostic imaging equipment; provides input to management regarding the need for new equipment and supplies.
- Prepares reports, correspondence and other documents as assigned; gathers and tabulates workload data; utilizes standard office administrative tools, including computers, to facilitate communication and work efficiency.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required License/Certification: Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and licensed by the California Department of Public Health as a Radiologic Technologist. (Please ensure the name on your license/certification matches the name on your application, as all licenses/certifications will be verified via primary source.)
Certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is highly desired.

Thorough Knowledge of:
- Basic theories and principles pertaining to a wide variety of diagnostic imaging procedures including x-ray, bone density, computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and mammography procedures.
- Standard methods and techniques pertaining to x-ray procedures.
- The operation and care of standard radiology equipment and the methods of positioning patients for examinations.
- Medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology necessary to perform diagnostic imaging procedures.
- Routing functions and activities of an acute care hospital diagnostic imaging unit, including standard procedures, materials and equipment.
- Safety requirements of a hospital diagnostic imaging unit, including the appropriate use of universal precautions.
Working Knowledge of:
- Methods and techniques used to perform bone density, CT, MRI and mammogram procedures.
- Methods of explaining diagnostic imaging procedures to patients and providing customer service in a health care environment.
- Basic hospital and nursing care procedures.
- The operation and care of radiographic equipment.
- Structural and organic anatomy.
- The principles and methods of x-ray film processing and development.
- The use of office automation equipment, including computers and business software, for communication and productivity purposes.
Skill and Ability to:
- Perform a wide variety of standard x-ray procedures.
- Learn and perform standard diagnostic imaging procedures pertaining to bone density, CT, MRI, mammography and other areas as assigned.
- Position patients for a variety of diagnostic imaging examinations and procedures.
- Operate and maintain standard x-ray and related diagnostic imaging equipment.
- Maintain safe working conditions by complying with established safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other medical professionals.
- Operate a personal computer and utilize standard business software.

- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others including physicians, nurses, administrators, managers, vendors, contractors and other health care industry personnel.

Experience:
One (1) year of experience preferred performing diagnostic imaging examinations, including fluoroscopy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations in an acute care hospital setting. Experience must have required the performance of standard x-ray procedures. Some familiarity with bone density, CT, and mammography procedures is desirable.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Natividad requires that all incumbents pass a pre-employment physical/medical assessment.
- Natividad will conduct a thorough background and reference check process which includes a Department of Justice fingerprint check.
- Employees who drive on County business to carry out job related duties must possess a valid CA Driver License for the class vehicle driven.
- Employees must have and show their original Social Security Card and a valid CA Driver License or CA State ID prior to the first day of work.
- Incumbents may be required to work all shifts, including irregular hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
