PURPOSE OF POSITION:
1.Greets and introduces self to patient and prepares patient for procedure.
2.Assists physicians with special procedures utilizing specialized digital equipment.
3.Performs supervisory and administrative activities. May include tour leader or being responsible for supervising any radiology staff.
4.Checks orders for completion, physician notes, and/or special instructions.
5.Confirms patient identification by verbal confirmation, ID band, etc.
6.Consults with radiologist and/or other physicians regarding examination appropriateness when necessary.
7.Participates in the quality control of equipment and film processors.
8.Describes nature and time requirements of the requested examination to the patient.
9.Follows techniques in performing specific exams. Adjusts equipment, determines proper dosage, arranges immobilization if necessary, provides shielding to patient.
10.Assists in the movement of patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers and radiographic tables.
11.Identifies problems and communicates (verbal and written) to immediate supervisor, checks Emails and responds daily, offers appropriate solutions.
12.Keeps room/work station neat and orderly.
13.Maintains and rotates supplies/inventory.
14.Participates in professional organizations as required and maintains continuing education requirements according State, City, and professional organization to include regularly scheduled departmental meetings i.e., staff, in-service, training, PI meetings.
15.Ensuring radiation safety for both patients and families and ensures proper documentation.
16.Performs and/or assists with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.
17.Participates in the Quality Control Program.
18.Performs visual preventive maintenance checks, records and reports results to appropriate personnel. Initiates equipment service when applicable.
19.Practices sterile technique, prevents cross contamination to patients and instruments, and practices appropriate infection control.
20.Prepares and maintains room and ensures emergency kit is accurately supplied and dated.
21.Prepares and/or administers contrast media as instructed by the radiologist.
22.Promotes good interpersonal relationships with superiors, staff, and patients.
23.Provides patient with gowning instructions.
24.Provides patient/doctor with proper examination supplies and information.
25.Provides protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards.
26.Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code procedures.
27.Records and ensures that assigned staff document appropriately in the Electronic Medical Record, PACS.
28.Restocks and maintains assigned work station/equipment in an orderly fashion.
29.Schedules patients in section and coordinates scheduling with other departments to ensure good Patient-flow when necessary.
30.Maintains daily work log as required.
31.Prepares and positions patient for special procedures; obtains scout films, and sets-up trays if needed.
32.May receive and register incoming patients as needed.
33.Reviews images for proper positioning, technique, and identification.
34.Utilizes hospital/department communications, telephone and paging systems appropriately.
35.Maintains patient examination volumes within departmental productivity standards.
36.Performs high - quality diagnostic exams with minimal or no supervision.
37.Adheres and conforms to Departmental/Hospital guidelines, policies, and procedures.
38.Supervises technical and clerical staff in the completion of tasks.
39.Coordinates the relief of staff as needed.
40.Completes all paperwork where applicable to include shift reports.
41.Coordinates and provides orientation and in-service training to technical staff on examination procedures, equipment management/service, equipment quality control, and film processor quality control.
42.Oversees and maintains an efficient patient-flow.
43.Coordinates exam scheduling with other areas.
44.Ensures that staff maintain patient examination volumes within departmental productivity standards.
45.QC testing to include tests and all other QC as required.
46.Adheres and conforms to hospital/department guidelines, policies, and Procedures, including infection control policies (demonstrates proper hand-washing).
47.Adheres to departmental attendance standards.
48.Communicates effectively with patients, visitors and colleagues.
49.Ability to make safe choices to prevent harm.
50.Uphold the mission in demonstrating the commitment to provide safe, high quality healthcare to its patients.
51.Radiographers will identify themselves to Nursing Staff or any other staff when applicable.
52.Document examination and technical issues in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
53.Ability to perform all clerical duties in the absence or shortage of clerical staff. .
54.All other duties as required by the department.
Assignment Level IV
1. Valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH; and
2. Possession of a current advanced-level certification in the appropriate specialty area; and
3. Two (2) years of Radiologic Technologist experience performing duties consistent with lower Assignment Levels, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
