Job summary

Qualifications

  • Vocational or Technical school diploma required.
  • New York State and/or Connecticut Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist required.
  • Current ARRT Radiology registration required, with specialized certifications as needed.
  • 1–3 years of technical experience required.
  • BLS through the American Heart Association required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination and set up CT procedures to administer the proper exam.
  • Explain procedures and obtain consent forms for IV contrast materials as needed.
  • Perform CT procedures including abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, and extremities.
  • Position patient on exam table and ensure proper slice thickness and couch increment.
  • Collaborate with Radiologist to adjust parameters within imaging protocols.
  • Use devices to reduce radiation exposure to radiosensitive areas.
  • Transmit cases to on-call Radiologist via Tele-Radiology and administer IV/oral contrast as ordered.
  • Explain IV contrast administration to patients and complete IV Contrast Information Sheet.
  • Monitor for contrast reactions and manage IV extravasations as needed.

Job description

Operates Computed Tomography (CT) equipment, prepares patients for examination, and ensures that proper information has been obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis. Maintains required documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares patients for examination and explains procedures and sets up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion
  • Ensures that a consent form for IV contrast materials has been obtained and screens for pregnancy
  • Performs CT procedures to include: abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, extremities, sub-periosteal implant planning, radiation therapy treatment planning, biopsies, etc.
  • Prepares patient for exam by placing and positioning patient on exam table within the gantry
  • Adjusts and ensures proper slice thickness and couch increment
  • In collaboration with Radiologist, extends parameters, if needed, within established imaging protocols
  • Utilizes special devices (i.e. bromide shield) to reduce exposure to ionizing radiation of radiosensitive areas (i.e. breast, thyroid, etc.).
  • Adjusts CT equipment to capture appropriate field of view and transmits cases to on-call Radiologist through use of Tele-Radiology system, as well as administers intravenous (IV) and oral contrast agents as per Radiologist order and performs venipuncture of the appropriate gauge necessary for examination
  • Explains in layman's terms the administration of IV contrast, and completes the IV Contrast Information Sheet with information provided by the patient, family member or health care proxy
  • Utilizes appropriate flush technique for an existing IV line, if needed and utilizes power injector to administer IV contrast, as well as recognizes and assists in the treatment of contrast agent reactions and IV extravasations

Qualifications
  • Vocational or Technical school Diploma required
  • New York State and/or Connecticut Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist, required.
  • Current ARRT Radiology registration required, plus specialized certifications as needed
  • 1-3 years of technical experience, required
  • BLS through the American Heart Association, required
