Position Overview

Performs imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care, supporting the Radiology Department's mission to provide diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure
  • Completion of an accredited Radiography School
  • Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire (West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland) or within one year (Pennsylvania).
  • Radiologist Technologist certification through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners or applicable state
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
  • State and federal criminal background checks as required
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Rotate in all diagnostic areas to develop technical skills.
  2. Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, request, and protocols.
  3. Produce high-quality images using imaging equipment.
  4. Select appropriate exposure factors to optimize image quality and minimize radiation exposure.
  5. Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff using shielding, collimation, and other techniques.
  6. Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging.
  7. Assess patient needs and provide support for comfort and hygiene.
  8. Prepare contrast agents and sterile trays as per protocols.
  9. Educate patients about radiographic procedures.
  10. Collaborate with team members to provide radiology services.
  11. Engage in problem solving and quality improvement initiatives.
  12. Follow ethical and safety guidelines, report equipment failures, and complete required training.
  13. Position patients accurately and participate in workflow coordination.
  14. Supervise and instruct radiology students as appropriate.
  15. Ensure all components of the imaging process are completed thoroughly.
Physical Requirements
  • Differentiating shades of gray on monitors or photographs.
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Wear lead aprons weighing 8-15 pounds.
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; carry items up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment
  • Exposure to minimal radiation within safety standards.
  • Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
  • Operation of imaging equipment with moving parts.
Skills and Abilities
  • Positive interaction with patients and team members.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple situations.
  • Adaptability in positioning and equipment manipulation under varied conditions.
