Position Overview
Performs imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care, supporting the Radiology Department's mission to provide diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure
- Completion of an accredited Radiography School
- Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire (West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland) or within one year (Pennsylvania).
- Radiologist Technologist certification through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners or applicable state
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
- State and federal criminal background checks as required
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Rotate in all diagnostic areas to develop technical skills.
- Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, request, and protocols.
- Produce high-quality images using imaging equipment.
- Select appropriate exposure factors to optimize image quality and minimize radiation exposure.
- Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff using shielding, collimation, and other techniques.
- Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging.
- Assess patient needs and provide support for comfort and hygiene.
- Prepare contrast agents and sterile trays as per protocols.
- Educate patients about radiographic procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to provide radiology services.
- Engage in problem solving and quality improvement initiatives.
- Follow ethical and safety guidelines, report equipment failures, and complete required training.
- Position patients accurately and participate in workflow coordination.
- Supervise and instruct radiology students as appropriate.
- Ensure all components of the imaging process are completed thoroughly.
Physical Requirements
- Differentiating shades of gray on monitors or photographs.
- Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Wear lead aprons weighing 8-15 pounds.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; carry items up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment
- Exposure to minimal radiation within safety standards.
- Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
- Operation of imaging equipment with moving parts.

- Adaptability in positioning and equipment manipulation under varied conditions.
