Position Overview
Performs imaging / therapeutic services and patient care in support of the Radiology Department's mission to provide diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and Licensure
- Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
- Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire (West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland) or within one year (Pennsylvania).
- Radiologist Technologist certification through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners or applicable state.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- State and federal criminal background checks as required.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
The following describes the general responsibilities of the role. Other duties may be assigned:
- Rotate through all diagnostic areas to develop technical skills.
- Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, request, and protocols.
- Produce high-quality images using appropriate equipment and systems.
- Select exposure factors to optimize image quality and minimize radiation exposure.
- Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff using shielding, collimation, and other techniques.
- Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging.
- Assess patient needs and provide support related to comfort and hygiene.
- Prepare contrast agents, pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays as per protocols.
- Educate patients about radiographic procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with team members across departments.
- Engage in problem-solving and quality improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to ethical standards, policies, and regulations.
- Report equipment failures immediately.
- Complete required in-services and competencies.
- Position patients accurately according to protocols.
- Participate in daily workflow coordination.
- Supervise and instruct radiology students as appropriate.
- Ensure all components of the imaging process are completed thoroughly.
Physical Requirements
- Differentiate shades of gray on imaging monitors.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Wear lead aprons weighing 8-15 pounds.
- Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Carry items up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment
- Exposure to minimal radiation, monitored by dosimeters.
- Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
- Operate imaging equipment with moving parts.

Additional Details
This position requires working days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and call rotations for a scheduled 40-hour week.
