Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Mammographic Technologist to perform mammographic procedures with limited supervision, including breast ultrasound, dexascan, and specialized breast imaging interventions. The role requires independent judgment in routine exams and responsibility for designated areas or procedures.

The holder will assess orders, operate mammography and bone density imaging equipment, and contribute to quality control.

Responsibilities

• Assesses for accuracy of orders and examinations.
• Utilizes skills and equipment pertinent to obtaining quality mammography, images and bone density imaging.
• Performs quality control on all equipment accurately and thoroughly.
• Educates patients regarding examinations to be performed and general breast care.
• Performs clerical/support functions as assigned.
• Utililizes management information (PACS, Magview) appropriately and accurately.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

Performs mammographic procedures at a technical level requiring limited supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures utilizing existing standards as a guide. Demonstrates the ability to utilize independent judgment in the completion of routine exams/procedures. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required including breast ultrasound, dexascan and specialized breast imaging interventions: Sterotactic Biopsy, Ultrasound Core Biopsy and Cyst Aspiration.
