Job Description Summary
MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform medical exams using X-rays on patients to create images of specific parts of the body.
- Utilize portable x-ray equipment.
- Perform radiographic examinations.
- Check equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis.
- Maintain x-ray and other equipment in efficient operating order; perform preventive maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contact outside service for major malfunctions.
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of work area; request and order supplies as necessary to keep materials on hand at all times.
- Perform other miscellaneous and related duties as required including lifting and transporting patients.
- Perform complex diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures to ensure comprehensive and diagnostic accuracy.
- Organize, manage time and prioritize patient exams to contribute to effective teamwork.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Completion of an accredited radiology program, usually a two-year associate degree in radiology.
- Radiographer certification (ARRT) such as the one offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- Graduation from an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
- Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); two to three years’ experience in performing ultrasound diagnostic procedures preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, and in confined spaces.
- Ability to work indoors and from elevated areas.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders.
- Ability to reach in all directions; good finger dexterity.
- Ability to use both legs and both hands/arms fully.
- Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. unassisted; to lift/lower objects 15 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted; to lift from 36 inches to overhead 15 lbs.
- Maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes; see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance; match or discriminate between colors; maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
- Perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements; work in a latex safe environment; maintain tactile sensory functions; maintain good olfactory sensory function; be qualified physically for respirator use.
