Job Summary

Under the general direction from the Manager, the incumbent performs a variety of patient‑care duties to produce diagnostic imaging through the operation of radiographic equipment, utilizing proper technique. The role involves explaining safety protocols, exams, and procedures to patients; operating fluoroscopic, portable, and other diagnostic equipment as required; and working independently as well as part of a multi‑disciplinary team. The incumbent may be assigned to one designated radiography area (Inpatient, Outpatient, or Emergency Room) and may cover alternate locations or MGB sites as needed. The position requires obtaining and maintaining ARRT Radiography registration, Massachusetts licensure, and necessary site and departmental certifications.

Responsibilities

• Confirm correct patient and exam through patient confirmation, interview, medical record, and appropriate documentation.
• Explain exam to patient, considering individual physical, emotional, and language needs; ensure patient compliance and understanding.
• Adjust equipment to correct settings, setting automated and manual technical factors to safely image patients.
• Perform required imaging using the appropriate equipment according to department protocols or Radiologist request.
• Ensure exams are labeled correctly prior to transmission to PACS and that images arrive successfully.
• Maintain safety and quality standards at all times, adhering to departmental and hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Certificate in Radiologic Sciences required; Associate’s Degree preferred.
• Massachusetts Radiography License required upon hire.
• ARRT (R) registration required within 90 days of hire.
• Additional job‑specific competencies and competencies maintenance as per department requirements.
