Radiologic and Bone Densitometry Technologist

Location: Brighton, MA
Position Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

The Radiologic and Bone Densitometry Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures, including radiographic imaging and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans, to support the care of athletes across their lifespan, with a focus on musculoskeletal health, athletic performance, and preventive care. This position requires expertise in operating imaging equipment, patient care, and collaboration with medical providers and care teams to ensure accurate imaging and a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform general radiographic imaging procedures as ordered by licensed healthcare providers.
• Conduct DXA to assess bone health and body composition.
• Review and evaluate requisitions for diagnostic imaging procedures and bone density examinations, ensuring the appropriateness of the procedure prescribed based on the diagnosis and clinical presentation for routine examinations.
• Explain imaging procedures to patients and families.
• Educate patients and families on safety protocols and ensure understanding of radiation risks and protective measures.
• Apply and uphold ALARA principles in all imaging procedures to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and self.
• Position patients appropriately and ensure safety protocols and comfort during imaging.
• Collaborate with clinical team members to support coordinated, patient-centered care.
• Maintain and calibrate radiology and DXA equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with quality and safety standards.
• Ensure imaging studies meet regulatory and clinical quality standards and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain knowledge of radiation safety and ensure adherence to federal, state, and institutional safety guidelines.
• Support scheduling of imaging services and ensure appropriate documentation, coding, and imaging protocols are followed.
• Maintain continuing education and certification in radiologic technology and DXA scanning.

Qualifications

Required:

• Associate’s degree or higher in Radiologic Technology
• Current Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist License
• Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
• Proficiency with radiology equipment, DXA systems, and electronic health records
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary care teams
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, comfort, and education
• Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment

Preferred:

• Certification by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical imaging
