Job summary

Qualis LLC seeks experienced RF engineers to analyze, simulate, design, develop, and integrate space‑rated RF communication systems. The team supports NASA programs, including Moon Base Utilities and Deep Space Communications Network, across multi‑system environments. An active security clearance is preferred.

Responsibilities include RF subsystem analyses, trade studies, link margin assessments, and collaboration on design reports. Mentoring junior engineers is expected as experience grows.

Qualifications

Qualis LLC is seeking experienced Radio Frequency (RF) Engineers at multiple levels to support the analysis, simulation, design, development, and integration of space-rated RF communication systems. The candidate will perform RF and electromagnetic analysis in complex, multi-system environments and support interoperability across multiple U.S. Government programs, customers, and missions.

Responsibilities will support NASA's Moon Base Utilities and Infrastructure Group, Deep Space Communications Network, and future space-based RF infrastructures. The position will contribute to the development and integration of RF communication capabilities for current and future space missions, including analysis of system interoperability and electromagnetic compatibility within multi-system operating environments. An active security clearance is required to perform the duties of this position.

The RF Engineer will perform a combination of the following functions, with the scope, complexity, independence, and leadership expectations increasing with experience and assigned level:

• Provide analyses of existing transmitters, receivers, and antenna designs.
• Participate in requirements and data reviews providing inputs and comments.
• Support test campaigns in the internal and external laboratories.
• Support and generate RF subsystem trade studies.
• Perform link margin analyses using various modulation protocols and environmental influences.
• Write or collaborate communication system design and analyses reports.
• Create computational models of antennas, antenna systems, and spacecraft.
• Provide procurement specifications for RF components and subsystems.
• Project milestone reviews for customers and stakeholders.
• Project technical interchange, planning, review, and other appropriate meetings required to maintain current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolution activities.
• Organizational management reviews.
• Mentor early-career and internship engineers.

Required Qualifications

A degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited university and 5 – 15 or more years of experience in Antenna and RF systems design, test, and evaluation.

• Ph.D. with at least 1 – 9 or more years of experience, or
• MS with at least 3 -13 or more years of experience, or
• BS with at least 5-15 or more years of experience.

Clearance Level:

• Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain US Security Clearance

Essential Functions:

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity, and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
