Job summary

Duke Raleigh Hospital, a campus of Duke University Health System, is seeking a Radiation Therapist to deliver prescribed radiation therapy with supervision and to support tumor localization, simulations and QA rounds. Responsibilities include patient preparation, safety, documentation, and collaboration with Radiation Oncology staff.

The role requires ARRT certification with CE, and a commitment to safety and patient care.

Qualifications

• Satisfactory completion of a 24‑month radiology technology course and a 12‑month radiation therapy course.
• Satisfactory completion of a 24‑month radiation therapy course.
• Registered nurse with 12‑month radiation therapy course or BS in radiation therapy.
• One year of clinical training in Radiation Therapy.
• Current ARRT certification in radiation therapy with CE.
• Knowledge of ionizing radiographic and radiation therapy equipment.
• CPR ability in a medical emergency.

Responsibilities

• Deliver prescribed radiation therapy with minimal supervision.
• Check prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient identification.
• Explain procedure and communicate during treatment; reinforce oncologist advice.
• Prepare room and equipment per prescription with immobilization devices and safety.
• Transfer patient to treatment couch with care.
• Monitor patient markings and report reactions.
• Observe radiation safety measures for patient and staff.
• Perform simulations and assist in dosimetry.
• Assist in tumor localization procedures and weekly QA rounds.
• Attend departmental meetings and participate in quality improvement activities.
