Job summary

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Louisiana seeks a Radiation Therapist to administer daily radiotherapy treatments under supervision. You will accurately position beams, deliver prescribed doses, and record treatment data while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include chart review, QA participation, and supervising/mentoring students. ARRT eligible or licensed, CPR trained, and experience with Elekta/Varian machines preferred. Relocation assistance may be available.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited program in radiation therapy technology.
• 2 years clinical experience as a radiation therapist preferred but not required.
• ARRT eligible or current RT(T) registry and Louisiana RT Board licensure.
• CPR required.
• Experience with Elekta and Varian treatment machines preferred.

• Administer daily radiotherapy treatments as directed, maintaining efficiency and patient safety.
• Maintain daily treatment records and adhere to policies and procedures.
• Assist with outside customers and vendors.
• Participate in orientation/training of new staff and students.
• Perform quality control activities and contribute to QA program.
• Maintain a clean, safe, organized work environment; follow safety policies.
• Rotational call responsibilities.

Job Description

SCOPE:

The radiation therapist administers treatments to patients under direction and supervision of a radiation oncologist and the supervisor, therapy & imaging; Accurately positions beam of radiation to correspond with designated tumor volume; Accurately delivers prescribed dose; Under minimal supervision, images tumor volume and outlines the corresponding target on patient’s surface; Accurately records data with respect to field parameters, patient dimensions, and contour acquisition, which are essential for proper dosimetric calculations and high quality radiation therapy.

Functions

• Administers daily radiotherapy treatments to patients assigned to the treatment unit, accurately and efficiently, at a speed consistent with patient scheduling.
• Maintains records of daily treatments as required in assigned treatment area. Follows treatment policies and procedures. Proactively reviews patient's chart.
• Assists with outside customers and vendors.
• Participates in the clinical orientation/instruction of newly hired radiation therapists, radiation therapy student and x-ray students.
• Performs mandatory quality control activities and participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement program of the treatment area department.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Observes and adheres to radiation safety and infection control policies.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited program in radiation therapy technology or suitable equivalent.

2 years clinical experience as a radiation therapist preferred but not required.

ARRT eligible or current registry as RT(T) and licensed by the Louisiana Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners.

CPR required.

Computer skills and exposure to various Elekta & Varian treatment machines preferred.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.
