Job summary

Tampa General Hospital is seeking a Radiation Safety Officer to lead the organization’s radiation safety, protection, and regulatory compliance across the enterprise. The role oversees exposure monitoring, material management, audits, training, and emergency preparedness, collaborating with imaging, nuclear medicine, environmental health and safety, and facilities teams.

The RSO will develop and implement comprehensive safety programs, ensure regulatory readiness, and provide strategic guidance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics, Radiation Science, or related field.
• Five (5) years of progressive experience in radiation safety, medical physics, diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine, radiation oncology, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve the enterprise Radiation Safety Program to ensure compliance.
• Serve as the designated Radiation Safety Officer and organizational SME for radiation safety and material management.
• Monitor compliance with regulations and maintain licenses, records, policies, and regulatory documentation.
• Oversee radiation monitoring programs including staff dosimetry management and dose monitoring.
• Conduct radiation safety audits, facility assessments, shielding evaluations, and inspections.
• Investigate radiation incidents and perform root cause analyses with corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver radiation safety training for clinicians and staff.
• Coordinate Radiation Safety Committee activities and regulatory updates.
• Collaborate with medical physicists, radiologists, and operational leadership to optimize safety practices.
• Lead emergency preparedness for radiation events and regulatory reporting.
