Job Description Summary

At Advanced Accelerator Applications, a Novartis company, we are committed to leading innovation in nuclear medicine and delivering targeted radioligand therapy to cancer patients. We seek an experienced Health, Safety, and Environmental professional with radiation safety program ownership to help us achieve our goals.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as the Site Radiation Safety subject matter expert, ensuring the safe handling of radioactive materials from raw materials to finished products and waste disposal.
  2. Implement and execute the Radiation Safety roadmap, collaborating with all site functions and the broader organization.
  3. Develop, maintain, and oversee Radiation Safety Programs to ensure regulatory compliance and safety.
  4. Monitor radiation exposure of personnel, adhering to ALARA principles.
  5. Investigate radiation incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  6. Maintain environmental radiation waste programs per EPA/NRC regulations.
  7. Act as the RSO on the license, liaising with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies (NRC, EPA, DOT).
  8. Ensure compliance with license requirements, prepare reports, and update licenses as needed.
  9. Coordinate and deliver radiation safety training for personnel.
  10. Conduct routine inspections of facilities and equipment for compliance.
  11. Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of radiation detection equipment.
  12. Develop emergency response procedures for radiation incidents.
  13. Respond to emergencies, coordinating teams and resources accordingly.

Essential Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, health and safety, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  2. At least 5 years in a Health and Safety role, including 2 years in Radiation Safety.
  3. Experience fostering an injury-free culture and knowledge of US compliance standards (EPA, OSHA, NRC).

Desirable Requirements:

  1. Experience in a cGMP environment.
  2. Radiation safety certification or training.

The starting salary range is between $114,100 and $211,900 annually, subject to adjustments based on market conditions, location, experience, and other factors. The total compensation package may include bonuses, stock units, and benefits such as medical, financial, and paid time off.
