Job Description Summary
At Advanced Accelerator Applications, a Novartis company, we are committed to leading innovation in nuclear medicine and delivering the next generation of targeted radioligand therapy to cancer patients. We are seeking an experienced Health, Safety, and Environmental professional with previous ownership of radiation safety programs to help us reach our ambitious goals.

As the Radiation Safety Lead, you will be responsible for all compliance activities related to Radiation Safety and for implementing programs to accomplish Novartis and local regulations and policies.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the Site Radiation Safety subject matter expert and work with operations and technical teams to ensure the safe handling of radioactive materials from raw materials to finished products and waste disposal.
  • Manage the implementation and execution of the Radiation Safety roadmap defined by Novartis, working closely with all functions within the site and the broader Novartis organization.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Radiation Safety Programs at site to ensure regulatory compliance and a safe working environment.
  • Oversee radiation exposure of personnel, ensuring adherence to ALARA principles (As Low As Reasonably Achievable).
  • Investigate incidents involving radiation exposure, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Ensure that environmental program for radiation waste is maintained according to the EPA/NRC regulations.
  • Act as the RSO on the license and as the primary contact with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, including the NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission), EPA, and DOT.
  • Ensure compliance with license requirements for radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment. Prepare compliance reports and update the license, as necessary.
  • Ensure that all personnel are appropriately trained by coordinating and/or delivering radiation safety training programs.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities, instrumentation, and operations to ensure compliance with radiation safety standards.
  • Ensure that radiation detection equipment is adequately maintained and calibrated
  • Develop and implement emergency response procedures related to radiation incidents, including spills, over-exposure events, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Respond to radiation-related emergencies, and coordinate teams and resources as appropriate.


Essential Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in industrial hygiene, health and safety, engineering, or related field or a minimum of 4 additional years of relevant experience.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in a Health and Safety role, including at least 2 years of Radiation Safety experience.
  • Experience building an injury and error-free culture with advanced knowledge of multiple US compliance areas (EPA, OSHA, NRC, etc.) is required.


Desirable Requirements:
  • Experience in a cGMP environment
  • Certification or training in radiation safety

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $114,100 and $211,900 per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25 fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an at-will position and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
