Job summary

Entergy is seeking an ALARA Specialist III or Senior, based on experience, to lead planning and execution of exposure reduction strategies at a nuclear facility in Louisiana. The role requires ANSI RP qualifications and extensive ALARA experience, with duties spanning planning, assessments, and field decisions during outages.

The candidate will implement ALARA plans, track dose reduction measures, and coordinate with multiple levels of management to ensure radiological safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Chemistry or related technical field; may credit for up to 1 year experience.
  • 5+ years as ANSI RP Technician (ALARA Spec III)
  • 8+ years as ANSI RP Technician (ALARA Spec Sr)
  • ANSI 3.1 Sr RP with high radiological risk experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and implement ALARA planning, estimating, work group involvement and procedure implementation per Entergy guidance.
  • Perform assessments, corrective actions, benchmarking and job evaluations for ALARA processes.
  • Implement fleet and industry best practices in ALARA.
  • Participate in outage planning and other duties integral to the Radiation Protection ALARA program.
  • Communicate with customers to determine best exposure reduction plans.
  • Assess conditions and make field technical decisions; report to management.

Job description

This position will be filled as an ALARA Specialist III or Senior based on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.

Primary Duties and Accountabilities:
  • Preparing and implementing ALARA planning, estimating, work group involvement and procedure implementation in accordance with Entergy procedural guidance for exposure reduction.
  • Performance and assessments, corrective actions, benchmarking, and job evaluations with regards to ALARA processes and practices.
  • Implement fleet and industry best practices.
  • Perform independent, specific roles such as outage planning, or other duties integral to the Radiation Protection ALARA program.
Job Scope:
  • Will have accountability to communicate with customers in determining best plans for exposure reduction.
  • Independently assess and make field technical decisions with regards to job performance, assessment of conditions, and communication with all levels of management.
  • Utilize knowledge to strategically assess corrective actions to improve exposure reduction, contamination reduction and work efficiency.
  • Can coach and perform critical observations.
  • Create, track, close and file the following: RWP’s, ALARA Plans, TEDE-ALARA Evaluations, Outage Milestones.
  • Conduct validation of dose estimates for work orders/emergent work.
  • Shielding- preparation, TSR development and approval.
  • Monitor/document accumulated dose for station/work groups.
  • ALARA Managers Committee - Preparation, Attendance, and Interaction.
  • Attend meetings and provide input on Radiological Risk, Dose Savings Ideas, RP Resource needs.
  • Establish radiological work requirements.
  • Organize, assemble and maintain job history files.
  • Represent the Radiation Protection Department in the online & outage work planning processes.
  • Perform station work schedule reviews.
  • Review station temporary alterations, modifications, or engineering changes for ALARA dose impacts and radiological risk.
Minimum Requirements:

Minimum education required for the position: B.S. Degree in Chemistry or related technical degree may be credited for up to 1 year of experience, or equivalent work experience.

Minimum experience required for the position: ALARA Spec, III (Nuc): 5+ years as an ANSI qualified RP Technician. ALARA Spec, Sr (Nuc): 8+ years as an ANSI qualified RP Technician.

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position: ANSI qualified 3.1 Sr RP (5+years) with High Radiological Risk job coverage experience, previous ALARA experience, experience in Nuclear Power Plant Operations.
