Job Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Geisinger Health System is seeking Medical Physicists to join our team in central Pennsylvania. Successful candidates will be involved in all aspects of clinical physics services, including supervising and supporting dosimetry, calibration, treatment planning, safety equipment operations, maintaining equipment, regulatory records, billing services, research activities, clinical protocols, and education for residency programs within Radiation Oncology.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Clinical support of linear accelerator treatments: patient simulation, image fusion, treatment planning, secondary dose calculation, plan quality assurance, and reviews of treatment plan safety and quality.
• Special emphasis on stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), high dose rate (HDR), and total body irradiation (TBI) treatment planning, secondary dose verification, and plan quality assurance.
• Clinical support of brachytherapy procedures: patient simulation, treatment planning, secondary dose verification, treatment delivery, reviews of delivery safety and quality; high dose rate equipment purchase, maintenance, quality assurance; permanent seed implants—ordering, assays, implant support and planning and documentation.
• Preparation and update of physics and dosimetry policies and procedures.
• Maintenance of daily, monthly, and annual quality assurance testing for software and equipment (diagnostic and therapeutic) throughout the department.
• Involvement in the departmental residency program: development of and instruction in a new radiobiology curriculum for physicist and radiation oncologist residents.
• Coordination of physics aspects of the department’s research program, including support for existing departmental and national research protocols, and development of original physics-oriented research projects.
• Travel for interdepartmental needs, training for new equipment or software, national meetings, and conferences.
• Other physics duties as needed, including commissioning of software and new equipment, radiation shielding calculations, and in vivo patient dose verification.
• Radixact and/or CyberKnife experience is desired.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Master's Degree in Medical Physics or related field (required). Certification in medical physics (e.g., AAPM). Analytical thinking, assessment, and diagnostic skills.
