University of Mississippi Medical Center is seeking a Safety Officer-Environmental Health to oversee chemical, biological, radiation, and laser safety programs at the Main Campus Jackson. You will develop, implement, and monitor safety initiatives to ensure regulatory compliance and responsible risk management.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related safety experience, plus strong knowledge of federal and local safety standards.

Competenze

• Bachelor’s degree and three years of work experience in environmental health and safety, chemical safety, biological safety, radiation safety, laboratory safety, or hazardous materials management
• Valid US Driver’s License; DOT certification for shipping hazardous goods required post-hire within one year
• Preferred: Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO) certification and radiation safety experience in a medical setting

• Develop, implement, and administer chemical, biological, radiation, and/or laser safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and institutional policies
• Conduct inspections, audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews of facilities, laboratories, equipment, and operations involving hazardous materials and safety-sensitive activities
• Provide technical guidance regarding the safe use, handling, storage, transport, and disposal of hazardous chemicals, biological materials, radioactive materials, and related waste
• Develop and deliver safety training and educational programs to promote regulatory compliance and safe work practices
• Investigate safety incidents, accidents, spills, exposures, and compliance concerns; recommend and monitor corrective actions
• Respond to emergencies involving chemical, biological, radiological, or laser hazards and coordinate appropriate response activities
• Review and evaluate research, clinical, instructional, and operational activities to ensure adherence to safety requirements and best practices
• Maintain required records, inventories, permits, reports, and documentation associated with assigned safety programs
• Advise management on regulatory requirements, emerging safety issues, risk mitigation strategies, and program improvements
• Prepare reports, analyze safety trends, and recommend measures to enhance workplace safety and program effectiveness
