Job summary

University of Mississippi Medical Center seeks a Manager – Fire and Life Safety to lead all safety programs and staff. You will ensure compliance with Joint Commission, state, and federal standards in a hospital setting on the Main Campus Jackson.

The role requires a degree and 4 years of safety-related experience, plus certification as a Healthcare Safety Professional within 3 years of hire. Travel may be required and collaboration with multiple hospital committees is essential.

Qualifications

• Required: Degree (Associate’s or Bachelor’s) and four (4) years of work experience in safety, health regulations, or industrial hygiene.
• Certification: Certified Healthcare Safety Professional within 3 years post-hire.
• Preferred: Healthcare Environmental Manager certification; healthcare setting experience.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and enforces fire and life safety policies and procedures.
• Acts as EHS subject matter expert on hospital committees and Joint Commission readiness.
• Serves as designee for the State Fire Marshal’s Office for UMMC operations.
• Develops and oversees staff safety training programs.
• Coordinates hazardous waste management with environmental services.
• Leads investigation of accidents and near-misses and recommends corrective action.
• Conducts building inspections to identify hazards and training needs.
• Ensures contractor compliance and manages vendor relations.
• Drives disaster response readiness and hospital emergency planning.
