Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Radiation Effects Engineer to support avionics and materials from mission inception to operation. You will contribute to design validation, circuit analysis, and mitigation leadership, guiding analyses across the program with a focus on safety and cost efficiency.

The role emphasizes automation, scripting, and knowledge sharing within the Systems and Avionics Center of Excellence, with travel as needed and a strong culture of collaboration.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Nuclear Science, or related field with 4+ years of experience in radiation effects on electronics and materials.
  • Strong familiarity with ionizing/non-ionizing radiation effects on electronics and various circuit types.
  • Experience with radiation environment modeling tools and statistical methods.
  • Experience building and scaling automation and AI-assisted tooling for team workflows.
  • Experience with radiation effects testing methodologies (SEE, TID, DDD).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present to peers and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to validation of space program designs with respect to radiation control plans, requirements, implementation, and verification; provide design engineering support for avionics and electrical systems.
  • Lead program design personnel through simulation and verification of circuit performance under radiation; recommend mitigation techniques.
  • Analyze impacts of space radiation on avionics and materials; incorporate test data and analysis into designs.
  • Generate thorough radiation effects analysis documentation at part, circuit, and system levels.
  • Develop reusable scripts, tools, and AI-assisted workflows to improve consistency of analyses across the team.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing across groups and programs.
