Crane Company is seeking a Sensor Physicist to design, model, and drive development of 3He and 10B counters, ion chambers, and gamma/UV detectors. The role blends detector physics, modeling, signal processing, and product development to deliver neutron, gamma-ray, and UV detectors to customers.

The ideal candidate has a strong applied physics background and can translate principles into commercial products via simulation, experiment, and cross‑functional collaboration in a production environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in sensor modeling and development, radiation detection.
• Strong understanding of: Radiation interactions with matter
• Detector physics, neutron and gamma detection
• Signal processing and data analysis
• Experience with experimental design, analyzing datasets and report writing

Responsibilities

• Design radiation detectors 3He, 10B proportional counters
• Ion chambers
• Fission chambers
• MCNP modeling
• Review radiation detector / sensor designs
• Write/update detector design practices
• Work with production on detector manufacturing and troubleshooting
• Coordinate with functions across the business to ensure success of the product lines
• Data analysis and detector evaluation
• Inform plant leadership on issues affecting production
• Analyze and solve physics-related problems involving radiation detectors
• Convert customer requirements into system and product specifications
• Qualify new products
• Present technical results to internal stakeholders
