Job summary

Eviction Defense Collaborative (EDC) in San Francisco is seeking a RADCo Coordinator to administer the Rental Assistance Disbursement Component. JOB SUMMARY

The RADCo Coordinator (Rental Assistance Disbursement Component) is an integral part of the RADCo team as well as Eviction Defense Collaborative’s (EDC) Right to Counsel Program. This position is responsible conducting client interviews and assessing their eligibility for rental assistance for the San Francisco Emergency rental Assistance Program (SFERAP). This includes providing short-term case management to clients seeking assistance with back rent or move-in deposits as well as connecting clients to appropriate referrals and additional resources.

Because we strive to be barrier-free and client-centered, the position requires individuals who truly enjoy working with people, have the skills and capacity to respond in an empathetic and respectful way to clients who are often in crisis and can work effectively in a collegial and fast paced environment.

The employee will work closely with the Litigation team to ensure clients are supported in their efforts to secure rental and/or litigation assistance.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collect and organize required documentation and information to assess client eligibility for the rental assistance program.
  • Conduct comprehensive client intake interviews to initiate program participation.
  • Submit client applications and provide timely updates regarding their status.
  • Provide short-term case management services to clients awaiting rental assistance approval. Responsibilities include developing individualized housing plans, supporting clients with budgeting and financial literacy, maintaining communication with social workers, payee services, and other relevant support networks.
  • Collaborate with partner nonprofit organizations to receive referrals and coordinate services that align with each client’s specific needs.
  • Advocate on behalf of tenants in communications with landlords and their legal representatives to facilitate acceptance of rental assistance payments.
  • Conduct follow-up check-ins with tenants at scheduled intervals after assistance is provided to assess outcomes and the long-term impact of the program.
  • Process rental applications for individuals involved in Unlawful Detainer (eviction) proceedings, ensuring eligibility for San Francisco Emergency Rental Assistance Program (SF ERAP) to help pay for rental arrears and prevent displacement.
  • Collaborate and maintain regular communication with tenant attorneys representing clients in San Francisco eviction cases to facilitate timely and accurate application submissions.
  • Submit a minimum of two (2) complete client applications per week to the supervisor for review and approval.
Administrative Duties (25%):
  • Attend weekly program meetings, monthly agency staff meetings, and relevant supervision meetings.
  • Enter client data on time and correctly to support program evaluation and outcomes tracking.
  • Exhibit exceptional customer service skills with the ability to de-escalate tense situations and provide compassionate support to clients experiencing stress or distress due to potential eviction.
  • Effectively reassure and guide frustrated clients, using sound judgement to make timely decisions based upon anticipated outcomes and clients needs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least four (4) years of relevant experience performing case management, whether paid, volunteer, internship, community-based, or academic.
  • Experience working directly with individuals with a diversity of racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and other office software; experience managing online calendars and setting appointments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to understand legal documents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in housing justice, legal aid, or social services settings.
  • Fluency in a language other than English highly preferred (Spanish, Cantonese, or Tagalog especially welcome).
  • Proven ability to ask personal or sensitive questions with professionalism, compassion, and discretion.
  • Salesforce or other legal/case management database experience is a plus.
  • Experience conducting income eligibility assessment for housing services, including housing rental subsidy initiatives or Below Market Rate (BMR) housing units.

Union

EDC staff are represented by the National Organization of Legal Services Workers (NOLSW, UAW Local 2320, AFL‑CIO). This position is a union position and is subject to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

Salary Determination

EDC uses a step system for all union employees. New employees are placed on the salary scale based on relevant work experience from the past nine years. Please include all relevant experience in your application and resume so EDC can determine your appropriate salary step.

Working conditions

This role involves handling sensitive and confidential information and requires professionalism, empathy, and the ability to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics. Some evening or weekend work may be required.

This is a hybrid role. Employees may be able to work from home two (2) regularly scheduled days a week after thirty (30) days of employment. Staff must remain responsive during standard business hours while working remotely.

Work from home schedules shall be established in consultation with the Employee’s supervisor and approved by Program Directors and/or Human Resources.
