Job summary

Google's Hardware Infrastructure team in Sunnyvale seeks a Rack Power Engineer to design in-rack and data center power solutions, including power supplies, PDUs, battery backup, and novel energy storage. Responsibilities

• Innovate and design in-rack and data center power conversion specifications and solutions including power supplies, power shelf, power distribution unit (PDU), battery backup system, etc. Analyze performance, cost, reliability and availability trade-offs.
• Build and validate component and system level power simulation models for AC and DC power systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand application requirements and partner with power industry leaders to evaluate and adopt compelling technologies.
• Lead projects that involve new technologies or new uses of multiple existing technologies.
• Engage cross-functionally to ensure successful roll-out, testing, and complete validation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience working on AC/DC and power delivery systems, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
• Experience in power design.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree or PhD in Power Electronics or related discipline. Understanding of power electronics fundamentals and knowledge of various power conversion designs for data center power delivery.
• Knowledge of power converter modeling and simulation and experience in data center power system design or battery backup system design.
• Familiarity with power electronic laboratory measurement techniques and equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, DAQ systems, and high power supplies/loads). Scripting experience such as Python/Perl.
• Exceptional problem solving and organizational skills, with a well-focused attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and ability to work effectively with cross-functional project teams.

Our team is responsible for designing the rack power systems for Google’s data center IT equipment. We work with vendors to design innovative power systems (i.e., power supplies, power shelves, and energy storage solutions) to meet the unique needs of machine learning, compute, and storage platforms.

As a Rack Power Engineer in Technical Infrastructure, you will play a key role in the development of one of the world's fastest growing computing infrastructures. You will work as part of a team to deliver innovative power solutions for data center computing applications. Our Platforms Infrastructure Engineering team designs and builds the hardware and software technologies that power all of Google's services. Our computational challenges are complex and unique, enabled by cutting-edge custom hardware designed and made in-house. As a hardware engineer, you will design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You will see those systems from concept all the way through to high-volume manufacturing. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $132000 - $189000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits
