Job summary

Google is seeking a Data Center Engineer to help shape the system-level architecture of our data centers and drive improvements in power and cooling infrastructure. You will partner with senior leaders and facilities technicians to implement cutting-edge, efficient solutions.

The role emphasizes compliance with codes and standards, developing infrastructure improvements, and acting as a subject-matter expert in electrical and cooling systems within Google's AI and Infrastructure teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in electrical/Power engineering.
  • At least 5 years in mission-critical facility design and construction environments.
  • Experience with electrical distribution systems in mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience in electrical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Define data center system-level, product architecture, and R&D, while helping to develop operations and maintenance procedures for systems/processes.
  • Conduct engineering analysis and research designs and methods of data center equipment and facilities. Manage and comply with the change control process.
  • Ensure designs and installations meet requirements (e.g., predicted cooling, structural, operational concerns).
  • Provide technical support to data center services and operations teams to define electrical system design requirements for multiple and simultaneous data center projects from inception through completion.
  • Own and manage all site level electrical system issues during the project execution phase. Identify and resolve issues with the cross functional teams. Maintain all data center related electrical system design requirements and interface documents.

Job description

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of utility electrical distribution systems in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
  • Experience in electrical infrastructure.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field.
  • Professional engineering license or a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of high voltage substations, medium or low voltage electrical distribution systems, alternating current (AC)/direct current (DC) systems, and associated power management or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) tools.
  • Experience working with data center equipment and environments (e.g., switchgear, generators, transformers, controls, security monitoring systems, fire safety systems), with an understanding of start up/commissioning processes.

US: $144000 - $208000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits
