Job summary

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. in Austin, TX seeks an experienced cost engineer to own end-to-end rack-level cost modeling and optimization for datacenter products. You will translate rack designs into detailed cost models and work with design, procurement, and finance to improve cost and margins.

Role requires 10+ years in engineering, strong SQL/Excel/Power BI skills, and familiarity with AI tools. This is an on-site role based in Austin and not visa-sponsored.

Qualifications

• Experience with datacenter, pod, and rack architectures and cost modeling.
• Proficiency in SQL and database technologies.
• Advanced Excel and Power BI skills; experience with AI tools such as Copilot/Claude.

Responsibilities

• Translate rack designs and BOMs into high-confidence component-level cost models using supplier quotes and proxies.
• Develop and maintain rack cost systems and tools for forecasts and ROI analysis.
• Design data analysis methods to identify trends and discrepancies in cost models.
• Collaborate with Rack/Datacenter Design Architects to forecast costs and influence product designs.
• Partner with Procurement to update and forecast rack-level costs and document changes.
• Organize product phase-gate reviews with Engineering, Finance, and Business Units during the NPI phase.
• Identify and drive cost-improvement projects via cross-functional teams.
• Replicate and apply best practices across business units and product lines.
