Job summary

Pew Research Center is seeking a Research Associate to study how Americans understand race, ethnicity, and immigration. You will translate complex topics into accessible survey questions and conduct rigorous analysis, creating charts and tables to communicate results.

You will manage multiple projects, write for diverse audiences, and ensure high standards of accuracy and impartiality in all products, collaborating with colleagues across research and communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences or related field is required or desirable.
• Advanced degree is preferred.
• 5–10 years of research experience, including 3–6 years in specialized survey research and analysis.
• Strong expertise in survey development and translating concepts into measures.
• Proficiency with statistical software (R, SPSS, Stata) and weighting techniques.
• Experience managing complex research projects across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, refinement and execution of survey questionnaires from concept through fielding.
• Conduct rigorous analysis of survey datasets and secondary data; identify key patterns and findings.
• Write materials for reports, blog posts, and presentations with clear visuals.
• Fact-check and number-check research outputs to ensure accuracy and neutrality.
• Map out project plans, timelines and coordinate multiple workstreams.
• Respond to information requests and present findings to external audiences.
