Job summary

Pew Research Center in Washington, DC seeks a Research Associate to study race, ethnicity, and immigration issues. You will translate complex topics into accessible survey questions, analyze data, and craft charts, tables and graphics for diverse audiences.

The role requires strong project management, communication skills and experience with major survey software. A bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree preferred. Hybrid work model with core in-office days.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred in social sciences, survey research, statistics, public policy, political science, psychology, demography or related field.
  • Training/experience in attitudinal or behavioral research related to racial and ethnic groups and/or immigration is desirable, with preference for U.S. Black population.
  • 5–10 years of research experience, including 3–6 years in specialized survey research and analysis.
  • Expertise in survey development, including writing and refining close-ended items and translating concepts into measures.
  • Strong quantitative skills and experience with statistical software such as R, SPSS, Stata or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Lead survey design and questionnaire development from concept through fielding on race and ethnicity topics in the U.S.
  • Conduct rigorous analysis of survey data and secondary sources, interpreting results and identifying compelling findings.
  • Write and prepare materials for reports, blog posts, presentations, and graphics; communicate results clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Quality control of research products, data, and written materials to meet standards for accuracy and impartiality.
  • Map out and manage project plans, timelines and workflows across research, communications and other functions.
  • Engage externally by responding to requests and presenting findings to journalists, policymakers and the public.
