Job Description Summary

The role of this position is to provide a safe, functional, clean, efficient and attractive living and learning environment. The electrician is a skilled, licensed trade person responsible for evaluating, repairing and replacing a variety of electrical facility components to ensure the equipment is fully operational and meets university standards. This position will involve corrective and preventive maintenance and minor alteration work and may oversee temporary labor and/or other trades persons or contractors as required. This position requires general supervision and often works independently.Trades technicians work independently and cooperatively with other Facility Management and University departments along with contract trade personnel to maintain building systems, prevent facility problems when possible and respond to customer requests or emergencies. Occasionally functions as a team leader of a 2-to-5-member project team. This position has no budget responsibilities.

Essential Functions
  • Perform preventive, routine corrective maintenance, and emergency repairs on wiring, lighting systems, power distribution panels, electrical motors and various equipment such as motor control centers and variable frequency drives to assure that systems are safe and operating as designed.
  • Work with, escort, and provide oversight and guidance to electrical and low voltage contractors ensuring National Electrical Code compliance standards are met.
  • Perform technical review of project drawings and provide feedback and recommendations.
  • Inspect upgrades, space changes, renovations, and construction projects ensuring National Electrical Code compliance standards are met.
  • Respond to emails, attend team meetings, and capture pictures and records notes for assigned work orders.
  • Attend technical training to remain up to date with new equipment, code compliance and industry changes that are relative to this position.
  • Provide temporary power and/or onsite coverage for special events to ensure university needs are met.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:Full-time.40 hours per week.

Salary Range:$35.21 - $42.26 per hour.

Required Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4 - 6 years of relevant experience.
  • DC Journeyman Electrician License.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot a simple electrical circuit.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Electrical Trade School Certificate.
  • 5 - 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience as a service and/or maintenance electrician.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license with fewer than 2 points
  • Ability to successfully function in a diverse, team-oriented organization where employees actively support one another and customers.
  • Intermediate computer skills, to include CMMS experience.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must agree to submit to a background check.
