Job Posting: Electrician (JR101652)
Department: Physical Plant. Position type: regular; Hourly: $24.49; benefits package included. Position is designated as "essential" and requires reporting during emergency conditions.
Responsibilities
Under general supervision, performs electrical work at the journey level. Installs, maintains and repairs equipment and facilities involving electrical circuits carrying less than 13,000 volts.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years progressively responsible experience in the electrical trade.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the theory, principles, methods, and techniques used in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and apparatus carrying less than 13,000 volts.
- Thorough knowledge of basic mathematics including area, volume, weights, and practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations related to the electrical trade, electrical codes, and Underwriters Rules for wiring and installation.
- Skill in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment of the electrical trade, including testing equipment such as ohmmeters, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscopes.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications; prepare summaries and reports; communicate effectively and follow directions.
- Ability to work in, on, around, over, and under fixed equipment and machinery; work from lifts, ladders, and scaffolding; manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies or exert force up to 70 lbs.; concurrently manipulate multiple controls on equipment and machinery; work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; wear and use personal protective equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional experience as a journeyman-level electrician and/or experience in a lead electrician capacity.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing fire alarm systems, security systems (cameras and door locks), and other electronic devices on campus (VFDs, scoreboards, etc.).
Conditions of Employment
- Medical inquiries and/or examinations to determine ability to perform the job.
- Valid non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license in Maryland may be required.
- Possession of Maryland State certification as a licensed electrician may be required.
- Other related experience and formal education may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis, with 30 college credits equivalent to one year of experience.
