Job summary

VantageSpecialtyChemicals in Chicago seeks a maintenance technician to support repair and preventive maintenance across mechanical, electrical and instrumentation areas. You will read manuals, follow work orders and apply problem-solving skills to keep plant equipment running safely and reliably.

The permanent shift is 2pm–10pm, with training 6am–2pm for the first 6–12 months. Candidates should have 3–5 years of maintenance experience in a chemical or petrochemical setting and be able to pass

• 3–5 years of maintenance experience in a process manufacturing environment (Chemical or Petrochemical).
• Ability to pass third-party trade tests as required.
• Shift schedule: 2pm–10pm; training 6am–2pm for 6–12 months.

Position Summary

• Provide repair and maintenance support in the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation areas of the facility.
• Perform preventive maintenance service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of plant wide equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
• Performs mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of plant wide equipment.
• Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
• Comply with OSHA safety and health rules.
• Repair and maintain mechanical electrical and instrumentation equipment in the facility as directed by supervisor.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on various equipment.
• Use hand and power tools as required to perform routine equipment maintenance functions.
• Use powered Man lifts (Eg JLG’s) and Scissor lifts to gain safe access to equipment.
• Transport and lift equipment using forklift trucks and other specialist equipment.
• Certify plant instruments following established ISO guidelines.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical/instrumentation problems, diagnose faults and carry out repairs.
• Follow all safety procedures at all times.
• Install new equipment as required.
• Maintain and upgrade plant facilities as required.
• Desire to train and increase skill levels in other areas from core skill eg. Mechanical, Electrical & Instrumentation.
• Complete record keeping documentation such as work orders, parts withdrawal, safety permits, etc. including entering information into the computer system.
• Responsible for FSSC/GMP food safety related to designated area.
• Report any food safety and quality related issues to management immediately.

• High School Diploma or G.E.D required

Experience:

• 3-5 years of applicable maintenance experience in a manufacturing process plant environment, preferably Chemical or Petro Chemical.
• Ability to pass third party trade tests as required.
• Shift conditions: permanent shift from 2pm-10pm. Training will occur from 6am-2pm for the first 6-12 months.

Pay

Union Roles: The rate for this position is $39,89/hr. with the ability to increase after proper training.
