Job summary

Helion Energy in Everett, WA is seeking an experienced engineer to operate and advance our high-energy fusion experiments. As a member of the Research and Development team, you will help run Field-Reversed Configuration experiments and ensure safe, reliable machine performance.

You will collaborate with engineering, science, and production teams, own system readiness, troubleshoot high-energy systems, and contribute to continuous improvement of operation procedures and diagnostics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in aerospace, mechanical engineering, physics, or related field.
• 4+ years (BS) or 2+ years (MS) of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience with high-vacuum chamber or high-voltage capacitor systems.
• Experience owning system uptime, reliability, and performance.
• Ability to learn quickly and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
• Experience mentoring others is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate and support day-to-day execution of FRC fusion experiments with safe, repeatable performance.
• Control and monitor pulsed power systems and high-energy infrastructure for reliability.
• Own system readiness for experiments, including pre-shot checks and troubleshooting.
• Diagnose issues in high-energy vacuum systems to minimize downtime.
• Apply plasma physics concepts to interpret diagnostics and guide experiments.
• Drive continuous improvement of operations and procedures.
• Collaborate with engineering, science, and production teams to improve throughput.
