Job summary

Kelly Services is hiring an R&D Technologist / Laboratory Scientist for a 9-month, on-site contract in Wilmington, DE. The role operates Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with a pay rate of $37 per hour.

Qualifications

  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Materials, Chemistry or equivalent experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge or experience with polymer characterization instrumentation preferred.
  • Ability to learn diverse testing methods and instruments.
  • Experience with mechanical testing equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare resin parts by mixing, milling, pressing, and sintering; document experiments in an ELN.
  • Set up and monitor organic reactions; document results in ELN.
  • Analyze results, identify issues, and propose next steps.
  • Characterize material structure using spectroscopic techniques (NMR, IR).
  • Learn polymer characterization tools such as DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, and testing equipment.
  • Document data and present findings at team meetings.
  • Calibrate instruments and prepare SOPs; troubleshoot as needed.
  • Order supplies and manage inventory; coordinate outside testing per DOT rules.

Kelly is hiring for a R&D Technologist / Laboratory Scientist for a 9-month contract role at Wilmington DE 19803 with our prestigious client.

Job Title: R&D Technologist / Laboratory Scientist

Primary Location: Wilmington DE 19803

9-month contract - On-site role

Monday - Friday - 8 AM - 4:30 PM

Pay rate: $37/hr.

Responsibilities
  • Independently making parts from resins, including mixing, milling, pressing and sintering, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and experimental documentation using an electronic laboratory notebook system.
  • May asked conducting organic reactions, including reaction system assembly, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and experimental documentation using an electronic laboratory notebook system.
  • Analyze results, recognize erroneous or unexpected outcomes, and make suggestions for a path forward.
  • Characterize material structure and performance, using various spectroscopic techniques, including, NMR, IR
  • Become familiar with and learn polymer characterization instrumentation such as DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, Impact and Tensile Testing.
  • Properly document and report all experimental data. Present findings and results at team meetings.
  • Troubleshoot and calibrate instruments. Author and prepare instrument manuals and SOPs.
  • Order and purchase supplies when needed. Maintain chemical, resin and experimental sample inventory.
  • Coordinate outside laboratory testing, including shipping samples following proper DOT rules and regulations.
  • Required limited lifting of lab equipment (Reactor, glassware, etc.).
Requirements
  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Material, Chemistry or have equivalent experience.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge or working experience with polymer characterization instrumentation is preferred.
  • Ability to learn a wide variety of testing methods and instruments.
  • Experience with mechanical testing equipment is preferred.
