Job summary

ASR Group in Boca Raton, FL is seeking a Research and Development Technician to support new product development. The role involves conducting lab and pilot plant experiments, setting up equipment, testing materials and creating detailed technical reports.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in pulp & paper technology or related science, with lab/R&D experience and strong data skills using Excel, SAP, and Minitab. Willingness to work overtime and lift 30lbs is required, with occasional local travel.

Qualifications

Experience in basic pulp & paper chemistry techniques.
Experience in a lab environment or R&D setting; familiarity with pH, moisture, color, burst strength, tensile, stiffness, tear and porosity is a plus.
Ability to interpret data, perform analytical calculations and statistical analysis.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook); SAP and Minitab experience preferred.
Ability to work under supervision as well as independently to meet project objectives and timelines.
Ability to work in a cross-functional environment with multiple departments.
Willingness to lift 30lbs occasionally and work flexible hours including overtime.
Strong attention to detail, organization and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Procures materials, collects samples and prepares products for testing and trial runs, including setup, running, and breakdown of pilot scale equipment, and supports scale-up of pilot trials at local sites.
Executes basic experiments to test hypotheses, while maintaining a safe laboratory environment.
Prepares compounds, test solutions and reagents to conduct experiments and discusses results on test procedures.
Develops, improves, and customizes equipment, products, formulas, analytical methods and processes.
Collects and analyzes lab and process data to generate reports and document findings in electronic lab notebooks and presentations.
Consults with engineers and scientists on analysis, interpretation, and development of tests.
Maintains stocks of critical supplies, chemicals and materials.
Creates and maintains Lab SOPs for operation of new or existing processes/equipment.
Cleans and maintains pilot plant equipment and laboratory instruments, ensuring calibration and proper operation.
