Job summary

EMD Electronics in Tamaqua, PA is seeking an R&D Technician to support process development in a laboratory and pilot plant. You will synthesize Organo-Silane or Organo-Metallic compounds and assemble experimental equipment.

The role involves operating pilot-scale reactors, maintaining safety and quality, troubleshooting, and keeping notebooks. Mon–Fri onsite with shifts 1pm–9pm or 9pm–5am. Base pay $32–$56 per hour, with potential bonuses.

Qualifications

• Experience with laboratory or pilot plant operations.
• Experience handling hazardous chemicals (toxic, reactive, pyrophoric, corrosive, oxidizer).
• Mechanical skills for assembly, installation and maintenance of glass and metal reactor systems.
• Familiarity with analytical instruments.
• Post secondary education, particularly chemistry or a technical field.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture compounds in a laboratory or pilot plant setting.
• Operate pilot-scale chemical reactors, filtration equipment, heaters/chillers, gloveboxes and inert gas handling manifolds.
• Maintain safety, environmental protection, productivity, quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Resolve daily operating issues.
• Diagnose malfunctions.
• Perform preventive and operating maintenance.
• Record and report deviations from normal operating conditions.
• Maintain up-to-date notebooks.
• Maintain a safe work environment.
• Follow EH&S standards.
