Job summary

EMD Electronics is seeking an R&D Technician to support process development in a laboratory and pilot-plant environment. You will manufacture compounds and operate pilot-scale reactors, handling Organo‑Silane and Organo‑Metallic chemistry while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Position located onsite in Tamaqua, PA with a fixed shift schedule (Mon–Fri, 1pm–9pm or 9pm–5am) and potential variations. Requires HS diploma; preferred lab/pilot plant experience and ability to work with

Qualifications

Your Role:

The R&D Technician will perform the activities necessary to support process development efforts in a laboratory and pilot plant environment. The activities will focus mainly on new product synthesis of Organo‑Silane or Organo‑Metallic compounds which will include construction of experimental equipment and routine analytical analysis of process and product samples. Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Manufacturing compounds in a laboratory or pilot plant setting
  • Operation of pilot scale chemical reactors, filtration equipment, heater/chillers, gloveboxes and inert gas/liquid handling manifolds as well as packaging solids, liquids and gases.
  • Responsible for safety, environmental protection, productivity, quality, and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Resolve of daily operating issues.
  • Diagnose malfunctions.
  • Perform preventive and operating maintenance.
  • Record and report all deviations from normal operating conditions.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date notebooks.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Follow all EMD Electronics corporate standards for laboratory and pilot plant EH&S.
Physical Attributes:
  • Lift, push, and or pull up to 50lbs on occasion
  • Wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, masks, and or steel‑toed safety shoes, as needed

Location- Onsite in Tamaqua PA (Monday – Friday) Flexible to work varying schedules. Hours 1pm - 9pm or Nights 9pm - 5am (This position is on a variable schedule to include afternoons 1pm - 9pm or Nights 9pm - 5am)

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with laboratory/pilot plant operations.
  • Experience with handling hazardous chemicals (toxic, reactive, pyrophoric, corrosive, oxidizer)
  • Mechanical skills relevant to the assembly, installation and maintenance of glass and metal chemical reactor systems.
  • Familiarity with analytical instruments.
  • Post secondary education, particularly chemistry or in a technical field.
  • Strong communication skills.

Base Pay Range for this position-$32.00-56.00 per hour

The offer range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base pay compensation for this position. The actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level of experience, education, skills, and other job‑related factors. Position may be eligible for sales or performance‑based bonuses. Benefits offered by the Company include health insurance, paid time off (PTO), retirement contributions, and other perquisites.
