Job summary

EMD Electronics in Carlsbad, CA seeks a Chemist to join the Small Volume Manufacturing team to support scale-up and transfer of new chemicals from R&D to production. You’ll work with R&D, Quality Control and Engineering to optimize processes.

Required: Bachelor’s in Chemistry or related field; preferred experience with purification systems, gloveboxes, toxic chemical handling, and SAP/LIMS tools. Day shift; safety-focused lab environment; benefits include health insurance and PTO.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related Life Science discipline.
  • Experience with safety reviews and SDS processes is a plus.
  • Experience using purification systems and small-scale purification input.
  • Familiarity with chemical handling of toxic substances and lab safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Review chemical SDS to participate in safety reviews.
  • Support chemical purification by running purification systems and providing technical input on small scale purifications.
  • Perform chemical sampling and packaging and providing technical input on complex container fills and chemical handling.
  • Vessel cleaning and break down.
  • Maintaining a current chemical inventory.
  • Performing equipment setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintaining a clean and efficient lab environment.

Your Role

The Chemist will be a part of the Small Volume Manufacturing team in Carlsbad supporting the small-scale manufacturing process and the experimental products M4Ward™program. The Small Volume team works closely with the R&D, Marketing, Quality Control and Engineering teams. The Small Volume team works to scale up and optimize production of new chemicals transferred from R&D and assist in transitioning production to high volume scale up as needed.

  • Chemical SDS review to conduct and participate in safety reviews
  • Supporting chemical purification by running purification systems and providing technical input on small scale chemical purifications.
  • Perform chemical sampling and packaging and providing technical input on complex container fills and chemical handling
  • Vessel cleaning and break down
  • Maintaining a current chemical inventory
  • Performing equipment setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Maintaining a clean and efficient lab environment
Physical Attributes
  • Wearing full face air-purifying respirator and other PPE
  • Lifting to 50 pounds
  • Standing, sitting, or walking for up to 8 hours
  • Raising arms up to and possibly above 90-degree angle
This is a Day-Shift position: Sunday – Thursday Hours operations 5am-1:30pm
Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related Life Science discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of P&ID’s and basic engineering principles
  • Experience working in gloveboxes
  • Chemical distillation and sublimation knowledge
  • Prior chemistry lab experience handling highly toxic chemicals, acids and bases
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
  • A strong focus on quality and safety
  • Experience using Microsoft suite including (Word, Excel, Access, SharePoint)
  • Experience using SAP, Intelex MOC, and LIMS systems
  • Strong data analysis, attention-to-detail and organizational skills

Pay Range for this position: $32.00-$50.00 per hour.

The offer range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base pay compensation for this position. The actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level of experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors. Position may be eligible for sales or performance-based bonuses. Benefits offered by the Company include health insurance, paid time off (PTO), retirement contributions, and other perquisites.
