Job summary

KPMG seeks a Tax Manager or Senior Manager to join our Accounting Methods and Credit Services practice in California. You will lead R&D tax credit engagements, manage study delivery, and develop client relationships while ensuring quality and timely deliverables.

This role offers formal training, mentoring, and opportunities to advance within a global firm. Requires strong IRC 174/41 knowledge, CPA/JD/LLM, and proven leadership in tax.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of R&D tax credit experience in a large firm.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
• CPA, JD/LLM or completion of an advanced credential within 1 year of hire; MBA, SEED or other listed credentials acceptable.
• Strong written and spoken communication; proficient in Word, Excel and Access; internet research skills.
• Experience managing multiple client engagements and client service teams.
• Technical knowledge of IRC sections 174 and 41 and related regulations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct R&D tax credit consulting and project management.
• Manage R&D tax credit studies and related activities.
• Develop and sustain client relationships during delivery of R&D tax credit services.
• Provide R&D tax credit quality assurance, engagement reviewer and exam support.
• Perform engagement management activities including billing analysis, invoicing, and engagement setup.
• Draft opinion letters, responses to IRS inquiries, IRS ruling requests and technical memoranda.
• Engage in new business development, including add-on work.
• Assist other project managers with delivery and technical issue research/writing.
