Job summary

Sherwin-Williams is seeking a Senior Chemist for the General Industrial Liquid Laboratory to lead development, commercialization, and line maintenance for Building Products market products. You will collaborate with technical management, sales, and marketing to identify opportunities, define timelines, and coordinate across teams.

The role requires hands-on chemistry expertise in waterborne coatings, project leadership, and a track record in commercialization.

Qualifications

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
  • 3+ years of experience in water base coatings formulation and application.
  • Must have previous project management experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of product commercialization experience.

  • Serve as the SME for waterborne coating technologies and AAMA specification testing requirements.
  • Act as the primary technical resource for complex projects and issues from manufacturing sites, quality teams, customers, and internal/external stakeholders related to Building Products liquid technology platforms.
  • Lead root cause investigations and resolution of customer complaints, product performance issues, and challenges associated with new product introductions and manufacturing scale-up activities.
  • Effectively manage project timelines, priorities, and resources to ensure successful achievement of both short-term objectives and long-term business goals.
  • Support the growth and maintenance of existing business while identifying and developing new business opportunities through a comprehensive understanding of coating chemistry, application processes, and formulation design.
  • Communicate project status, technical findings, risks, and deliverables clearly and effectively to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support to customers by troubleshooting product and application issues, recommending corrective actions, and driving implementation of solutions.
  • Foster a collaborative, team-oriented work environment that promotes knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and deliver clear written and verbal communications regarding project progress, technical recommendations, and business impacts to leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Technical, Marketing, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Product Management, and Analytical teams to support business objectives and ensure successful project execution.

The General Industrial Liquid Laboratory is seeking a Senior Chemist to lead the development, commercialization, and line maintenance efforts for new and existing products designed for the Building Products Market Segment. This individual will work closely with technical management, sales, and marketing to identify product development opportunities, define project timelines, and lead coordination efforts across key functional teams within Sherwin-Williams.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1,etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • 3+ years of experience in water base coatings formulation and application
  • Must have previous project management experience
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of product commercialization experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of product development and/or commercialization experience
  • Knowledge in both solvent and water base paint formulations and manufacturing
  • Knowledge of the Build Products market and testing requirements
  • Experience applying coatings to metal, vinyl, and fiberglass substrates, including proper surface preparation
  • Trained in Design of Experiments (DOE) and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies

Travel Requirements: 10%

This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, including conversion to H-1B visa.

This position is also eligible for bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company’s applicable plans.
