Job Description

The Associate Chemist position in our Automotive division is responsible for a variety of exciting activities related to toner development supporting the vehicle refinish segment. The ideal candidate will support new product development and support existing product lines in this role. Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company’s staff, employees, and business relationships. This role is not remote/hybrid. This role will report to Sherwin-Williams Morikis Global Technology Center located at 1 Innovation Parkway, Brecksville, OH 44141.

Responsibilities
  • Understands structure-property relationships and communicates this to peers and customers.
  • With moderate supervision, develops, formulates and enhances products.
  • Plans, designs, and executes experiments. Provides clear and accurate analysis of results, draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on findings.
  • Performs basic paint-formulation calculations, makes paint samples, applies paint samples and understands and can accurately perform tests to customer/industry specifications.
  • Responsible for inputting data, data analysis and technical documentation into lab book or database on a daily basis.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Participates in project update meetings.
  • Complies with and displays knowledge of all safety and security regulations and maintains a clean work area.
  • Adheres to company safety standards at all times.
  • Travels for manufacturing support and customer visits.
  • Trains or mentors new or lower-level technologists/technicians.
  • Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1,etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
  • Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to the colors desired by customers.
  • Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis
  • Math knowledge
  • Chemistry knowledge
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Polymers and Coatings
  • 1-2 years formulation experience in an industrial setting.
  • Experience working with products and technologies including, but not limited to, solvent-based and waterborne technologies, monocoat and basecoat/clear coat, solid shades and metallic products over plastic substrates.
  • Knowledge of and experience with DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) methodology and tool usage.

Travel Requirements: 5%

This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, including conversion to H-1B visa.

Successful candidate will be required to sign an Employee Restrictive Covenant Agreement where permitted by law.

This position is also eligible for bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company’s applicable plans.
