Job summary

Wisk Aero in Hollister, CA, is seeking a Software Engineer to join our R&D team focused on autonomous eVTOL systems. This onsite role requires hands-on development across software modules, simulation, and test workflows to advance surrogate platform testing and rapid evaluation of autonomy features.

You will collaborate with software and systems engineers, implement robust software for end-to-end sensor testing, and contribute to the integration of new modules in our helicopter platform and

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, STEM, or equivalent with 3+ years software experience.
  • Proficiency in Python for robotics and low-level IO or network services.
  • Experience with JIRA and other project management/CI tools.
  • Experience capturing and analyzing network traffic (Wireshark, tcpdump, iPerf).
  • Proficiency with Linux environments and shell scripting.
  • Experience with Docker or containerization.
  • C/C++ with GNU toolchain (gcc, gdb) and RTOS experience is a plus.
  • Familiar with flight simulators and in-the-loop testing.
  • Familiar with Agile, unit testing, and test-driven development.
  • Knowledge of aviation sensors (ADS-B, GPS, INS) and avionics protocols (CAN, ARINC, I2C, SPI).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a full stack autonomy system in surrogate aircraft.
  • Develop software for end-to-end testing of embedded sensors from simulation to flight test.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers on requirements for detection, navigation, and flight path management.
  • Develop test plans covering flight tests, data collection, and expected results.

The R&D team is responsible for rapid evaluation of autonomy systems in a flight environment, and the development of future technologies that enable autonomous eVTOL operations. The goal of this position is to facilitate the development of autonomous systems through the use of surrogate platforms like helicopters, and simulation. This position will facilitate the integration of new software modules in our helicopter platform & bench setups, develop software architectures that enable rapid test and evaluation, automate software deployment, and automate data extraction and validation. Due to the nature of the work required for this position, this is an onsite opportunity. You will be required to work from our Hollister location.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for working with other software engineers to continue to develop and maintain a full stack autonomy system that is flown in surrogate aircraft.
  • Be responsible for developing software used in the end-to-end testing of embedded sensors from simulation to flight test.
  • Work with the systems engineers to understand the functional and performance requirements for the confliction detection, navigation, & flight path management system and subsystems.
  • Work with the R&D team to develop test plans specifying flight tests that need to be performed, the sensor and ground truth data that needs to be collected, and the expected results.
Requirements
  • B.S. in Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, STEM, or equivalent real-world experience and 3+ years industry experience with software development.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in Python programming for robotics, IO for low level devices, or network-based services.
  • Experience with commonly used project management, bug tracking, continuous integration tools e.g., JIRA.
  • Experience with capturing, monitoring and analyzing network traffic, e.g., Wireshark, tcpdump, iPerf.
  • Experience with Linux, e.g., configuration management, shell scripting.
  • You have experience with Docker or experience with containerization in general.
  • Experience with the Google Cloud Products and BigQuery is a plus.
  • Desired: Experience with real time operating systems (RTOS), and other low-level C/C++ software.
  • Experience C/C++ programming with the GNU Toolchain (gcc, gdb).
  • Familiar with flight simulators leveraging both software and hardware “in-the-loop” testing strategies.
  • Familiar with Agile software development, unit Testing and test driven development.
  • Familiar with flight test operations.
  • Familiar with sensors used in the aviation industry, e.g., ADS-B, GPS, INS, ACAS, etc.
  • Familiar with embedded systems communication protocols, e.g., CAN, ARINC, I2C, SPI.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay range the company expects to pay: $167,000 - $208,000 per year - The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.

Wisk HQ is located in Mountain View just a couple of hundred feet from Shoreline Lake and its surrounding walking/jogging trails.
