Job summary

Keysight Technologies is offering a paid, full-time internship in Colorado Springs focused on building AI tooling for internal engineers. You will join an Agile team, work on design, implementation, and testing of internal tooling, and contribute to MCP and AI-assisted development efforts.

Qualifications

Come join Keysight for a summer internship in Colorado Springs and help us build the AI tooling our own engineers use to design and ship measurement software. You'll learn how to apply your engineering coursework and knowledge in software development to solve real-world problems.

About the Job

You will be part of an Agile software development team and will work on the design, implementation, and testing of internal tooling that helps Keysight R&D engineers develop software faster and better with AI. You will be assigned a self-contained project at the start of your internship, chosen from the team's active work so that it delivers something the team keeps using after you leave. Projects span the range of what this side of the team builds: MCP servers and agent workflows for engineering tasks, AI assistance integrated into our IDEs and CI/CD pipelines, prompt and context management for internal tools, evaluation of AI-assisted development output, and the measurement that tells us whether any of it made the team faster. This internship is a deliberate pipeline into our full-time R&D Engineer openings.

About the Team

We are not a research group: everything we build is aimed at getting used. Your users are the engineers sitting around you and on neighboring teams, which makes this a different kind of software job than most internships - you will spend real time finding out what people actually need, and then getting them to adopt what you built. The team has a mix of new and experienced developers with a broad range of skills, and is eager to help you succeed. You will be paired with a mentor on the team and will report to the engineering manager, with regular guidance from the Solutions Architect.

Responsibilities

• Designing, implementing, testing, and documenting software for a scoped project on the team's roadmap
• Applying Generative AI and agentic techniques, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool and function calling, and multi-step reasoning, under the direction of your mentor
• Building integrations between AI systems and the tools our engineers already use, including IDEs, source control, CI/CD, and issue tracking
• Gathering requirements from the engineers who will use your tooling, and adjusting your design once they start using it
• Writing automated tests and contributing to how we measure AI quality: test data sets, regression suites, and evaluation criteria for behavior that is not strictly deterministic
• Measuring adoption and impact, so we can tell the difference between tooling that is interesting and tooling that is useful
• Learning new development tools and processes, and working in the team's Git, code review, and CI/CD practices
• Documenting and demonstrating your tooling to other engineering teams
• Participating in team stand-ups, design reviews, and demos, and communicating progress and blockers clearly
• Presenting your project and results to the team and to R&D leadership at the end of the internship

Basic Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or an equivalent degree, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028 (typically a rising senior)
• Experience with software development, source control, and testing
• Experience with object-oriented programming in a modern language such as Python, C++, C#, Rust, or Java, and the ability to write and debug non-trivial code independently
• Exposure to AI or machine learning concepts through coursework, personal projects, or prior internship work, plus clear curiosity about how AI-powered software is actually built
• Strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to work on-site in Colorado Springs for the duration of the internship
• Authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer-sponsored work authorization now or in the future

Desired Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, or agentic frameworks such as LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, or Semantic Kernel; coursework, hackathon, or side-project scale is fine
• Experience building tools, scripts, or automation that other people ended up using
• Exposure to DevOps or CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps
• Experience building or consuming APIs and integrations between systems
• Any exposure to AI coding assistants, IDE extensions, or the Model Context Protocol (MCP)
• Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code
• Familiarity with Git source control
• Familiarity with Atlassian tools - Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket
• Experience building test automation or evaluation tooling of any kind
• Interest in developer experience, platform engineering, or internal tooling as a career direction
• Prior internship, co-op, research, or substantial open-source contribution experience
• Interest in returning for a full-time role after graduation

This is a paid, full-time internship of approximately 12 weeks, based on-site at Keysight’s Colorado Springs, Colorado facility. On-site presence is required for access to instrument hardware and measurement lab facilities. Start and end dates are flexible around your academic calendar.

MIN $30.34 - MAX $32.68

Based on experience, education and skills, most offers will be between the minimum and the midpoint of the Salary Range listed.
