Ziehl-Abegg in Winston-Salem, NC seeks an experienced R&D Manager to lead research and development programs, guiding cross-functional teams to translate customer needs into new or improved products. The role integrates testing, data analysis, and strategic direction across projects.

You will manage budgets, define procedures, and ensure on-time delivery while collaborating with Sales, Operations, and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 5–10 years of production/industry experience.
• Experience in R&D program management and product launches.
• Lean manufacturing knowledge and ISO 9001 familiarity.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction and support to internal technical teams and cross-functional core teams.
• Develop research programs incorporating current developments to improve existing products and study new ones.
• Define customer expectations on designed products and communicate them clearly to teams.
• Establish testing procedures for raw materials, in-process and finished products.
• Monitor metrics and objectives to ensure goals are met and projects stay on budget.
• Oversee complex R&D projects, analyze results, and make recommendations.

Theresearch and development (R&D) manager manage and directs the research and development programs to meet organizational needs and to capitalize on potential new products. An R&D Manager oversees complex research projects, analyzes results, and provides recommendations based on findings.

• -Provide direction and support to internal technical team and cross-functional core teams.
• -Develop research programs incorporating current developments to improve existing products and study the potential of new products.
• -Define and communicate customer expectations on newly designed manufactured products.
• -Determine and execute improved technologies used by suppliers, competitors, and customers.
• -Establish project goals and priorities by collaborating with Sales and Operations.
• -Research, design and evaluate materials, assemblies, processes, and equipment.
• -Suggest training tools to enhance employee performance and skill development.
• -Monitor team metrics and objectives ensuring meeting of goals.
• -Document all phases of research and development.
• -Manage customer relationships and perform RFP reviews, customer visits, and product testing.
• -Establish and maintain testing procedures for assessing raw materials, in-process and finished products.
• -Oversee complex research projects, analyze r esults, and provide recommendations based on findings.
• -Assess the scope of research projects and ensure they are on time and within budget.
• -Be present at industry conferences on research topics of interest.

Requirements

• - Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent work experience.

• - Experienced in interpreting and analyzing large scale experimental data sets. Proven experience in people management and proven leadership skills
• - Proven understanding of assay product development life cycle.
